Alamogordo, New Mexico would be the location of a UFO encounter involving Air Force Sergeant Charles L. Moody on August 13, 1975. Moody was in the desert observing a meteor shower at about 1:15 A.M. when he saw a glowing, metallic, disk-shaped object falling toward the ground about 300 feet away.
The UFO was about fifty feet long and eighteen to twenty feet wide. As it descended to an altitude of fifteen to twenty feet, it wobbled on its own axis.
Then it began moving slowly and steadily toward Moody. He jumped into his car but was unable to start it. The UFO came to a stop about seventy feet away. Moody could hear a high-pitched humming sound. He noticed a rectangular window in the craft through which he could see shadows resembling human forms. The noise stopped and he felt a numbness crawling over his body.
The next thing he would remember was seeing the object rising up into the sky and disappearing into the distance.
Moody turned the ignition key and his car started immediately. Terrified, he drove off quickly. When he arrived home, he noticed, to his surprise, that the time was 3:00 A. M. He felt that he had somehow lost about one and a half hours. The following day Moody experienced a pain in his lower back.
Within a few days, a rash broke out over his lower body. Upon the recommendation of a physician, he began to practice self-hypnosis in an effort to recall what had occurred during the lost time period.
Over the next few weeks, he was able to piece together an almost complete picture of the events. According to Moody's subsequent recollection, after being overcome by numbness on August 13, 1975, he had observed two beings approaching his car.
About six feet tall, the creatures wore skintight black clothing. After a brief scuffle with them, he was rendered unconscious. He awoke on a slab inside the craft. His limbs felt leaden and immovable. Next to him stood the alien leader.
The latter was distinguishable from Moody's two captors by his short stature of about five feet, and the silvery white color of his suit. However, like the others he had a large hairless head, a protruding brow, roundish eyes, small ears and nose, and very thin lips. His skin was whitish-gray.
The leader asked Moody telepathically if he was prepared to behave peacefully. When Moody agreed to do so, the leader applied a rodlike device to his back which relieved the paralysis.
Moody was taken to another part of the ship where he was shown the drive unit, a device consisting of a large rod surrounded by three glass-canopied holes. Each hole contained a central crystalline object with one rod on each side of it. One rod had a spherical head, while the other was topped by a T-bar.
As he moved about the craft, Moody noticed a sweet, stifling odor. He was told that the alien mother ship was situated miles away above Earth. He was promised a future meeting with the occupants but warned that closer contact with Earth men would not be attempted for another twenty years.
The aliens told Moody that he would have no recollection of the incident until about two weeks later. The leader placed his hands on the sides of Moody's head, rendering him unconscious once more.
An analysis of Moody's claims by Charles McQuiston, co-inventor of the Psychological Stress Evaluator, indicated that he was telling the truth. Investigator Jim Lorenzen, however, questions a couple of contradictions in Moody's accounts of the incident. In an early telling, Moody related that the alien mother ship was located 400 miles above Earth.
Later, however, he said it was 6,000 miles away. Another point which Lorenzen notes is that Moody at one time referred to his two captors as frail creatures, yet later described them as being six feet tall.

Since the modern era of abductions began with the Barney and Betty Hill UFO close encounter of September 19, 1961 in New Hampshire, ufology has never been the same. Before the Hills' encounter, UFO sightings were investigated in a prescribed, straight forward manner that involved gathering supporting evidence while simultaneously trying to disprove a witness's account. The Hill's remarkable experience injected a new element, regressive hypnosis. In future entity-related cases hypnosis would often come to be the only means to prove or disprove an alleged encounter with aliens. Hypnotherapy, in short, became a quick truth serum that often eliminated the necessity of independent witnesses and background checks of the alleged abductees. The lack of supporting physical evidence and why abductions, almost without exception, were never reported to local police agencies was not addressed. To explain these obvious discrepancies, UFO investigators and researchers came up with innovative ideas. "Screen memories," abduction investigators said, were used by the abducting aliens to conceal their ghastly abductions. The "switching off" of important witnesses, who, somehow never saw their loved ones abducted, was also employed by the tricky extraterrestrial (ET) aliens to conceal their sinister space kidnappings.
As new UFO investigators joined the hunt in trying to solve the world's most elusive mystery, they, largely, accepted hypnosis sessions with abductees as a legitimate detective tool to seek the truth behind abductions. Objective UFO investigators after many investigated cases, however, saw that many aspects of the abduction experience were troubling. There seemed to be considerable overlap into what in the past had only been referred to as paranormal activity.
Abductees often say they hear explosions and unidentified, but alarming, strange sounds in their houses. They also see small balls of light floating on their ceilings and have strange green or blue flashes popping inside their homes. While in bed, abductees sometimes find they have terrifying nightmares where they can't seem to move. Often they feel "something" is on top of them trying to suffocate or hold them down. Awakening, they see "shadows" or short dark robed entities near the foot of their beds. Frequently these unknown entities are found near the beds of their infants, toddlers or children and seen to disappear through walls on entering and leaving. Amazingly, the unknown entities do not cause witness to become frightened as they watch/endure actions that should provoke great fear. Mind-control, it is thought, is induced to calm the abductees during abductions.
Most, to nearly all, of the above has happened for centuries to people who have never entertained thoughts of a UFO-connected experience. Earlier victims believed their houses were haunted and that ghosts or demons were bothering them. Church officials were often brought in to exorcise the demons. Amateur "ghost-busters" engaged to explain the hauntings. The demons, uncharacteristically, followed many of these same people from house-to-house, just as abductees say abductions follow them through their lives. If it was only ghost activity, as many in the past and even today incorrectly believe, why would the ghosts continue to haunt in new locations? Were tracking devices or implants placed in these helpless victims hundreds or even thousands of years ago as abductees now believe is happening to themselves, today?
To understand the riddle, it has to be accepted, as the preponderance of evidence suggests, that UFO sightings and abductions are two distinct and separate phenomenons. It cannot be positively said that no one has never been physically abducted but it has definitely been an enormous mistake to downplay the similarities between bedroom abductions and demonic activity. Indeed with the exception of a handful of abduction accounts--the Travis Walton account of Snowflake, Arizona being the most noteworthy--that appear to have supporting witnesses, who actually said they saw a kidnapping of a person into an unknown space ship, the testimony of abductees, regardless of how it was acquired, should have never been accepted at face value. If true objectivity had been observed by abduction investigators this blurring of UFO and paranormal accounts would have never taken place. It is this veteran field investigator's belief that 99.9 percent of all entity sightings do not involve UFOs or extraterrestrials. What most so-called "abductees" are really experiencing are innerterrestrials INTs).
Make no mistake they are an alien species--but not one of the flesh. These dimensional creatures can move easily through walls and, yet, not violate man's known physics. They are spiritually abducting so many victims seemingly everywhere. They do not need space ships or space suits to interface with us. They do not need to do insane breeding experiments as so many abductees believe is happening. All can be explained as mind games that nevertheless are of a sinister nature. They are, as abduction researcher Dr. David Jacobs correctly proposes, a "threat," but not an extraterrestrial one, as he believes. An ET threat would require a huge logistical undertaking, involving thousands of space ships if there are a million abductees or more as a Roper poll in the early 1990s suggested. The proof that we have two distinct phenomenons can be found in what is not alike between genuine UFO sightings and entity/abduction experiences.
Over the last half century UFO sightings have come largely in great "waves" and, sometimes, in localized "flaps." The great documented UFO waves since World War II have occurred in 1947, 1952, 1965-66, 1973, a smaller and less defined wave during 1987-1988, and finally, the greatest wave, 1993-1997. If you look between these great waves, at least in the United States, you will a find a few localized flaps--Gulf Breeze Florida, Pine Bush New York, Fyffe Alabama, and most recently, around LaGrange, Georgia. Markedly, sighting reports show that there is a huge falloff of UFO activity between waves. Abduction experiences, however, do not ride or crest with these same waves. They have been everywhere and seemingly forever since the abduction of the Hills. So have the sightings of witches, ghosts, and "haints, as rural Southerners commonly call INTs, continued uninterrupted. Worldwide, paranormal activity has occurred throughout history, with many saying that today's demonic infiltration is at unprecedented levels. (A year ago a Vatican guard went berserk and killed a fellow Papal guard. In a just released (Feb. 1999) Vatican report on the incident it was learned that the first thing the Pope's commission investigated was to see if the guard had been possessed by demons.)
True UFOs do not occur often in urban areas, despite the vast majority of UFO and abduction investigators living in large cities. Instead, most authentic UFO sightings take place in rural locales. There is a good reason for this: If UFOs are extraterrestrial space-craft, as many suspect, it can be speculated that, at least during a portion of their activities on earth, they can be seen and located by humans. Nearly all of the best close-encounter sightings come from isolated spots where there are seldom other witnesses around. Most UFO sightings also occur late at night and, interestingly, during the period of Sunday through Thursday; the exact times that most people are not outside! Secrecy is essential for these physical craft as they can be seen and possibly touched if detected. Not so with what abductees commonly call the grays, which are really innerterrestrials. Like hauntings, abductions seemingly occur as often in rural as urban areas and at random times which suggests secrecy is not paramount.
Innerterrestrial--haints, shadows, witches, demons, grays, fairies, gnomes, goblins, ghosts, reptiles, or whatever you want to call them--have no need to exercise such great care. It does not matter if a person sees a gray standing near their bed. They cannot be touched, nor can they touch a human. Many witnesses of grays and haints have said they have actually had the entities stick their clawed hands through their bodies with no resultant physical harm. The author has investigated an account of a driver of a pickup truck running a shadow over and then seeing the INT reappear inside the cab of his truck. Innerterrestrials can be seen while wide awake, and in at least one instance the author knows of, where two people have seen an INT at the same time. These same individuals did not see a space ship near them or think there was an ET connection with what they saw. While it would be easy to lay all the blame on hypnotherapists for making the outer space connection to what are really INT sightings, recent culture conditioning, as noted ufologist Kevin Randle has said, is the real blame.
For instance, let us suppose a father awakens late one night and sees a dark robed, faceless entity standing next to his son's baby bed. Then, several months later, actually sees a UFO near his home or watches a movie about abductions and recognizes the similarities to his own entity sighting. What happens? Not unnaturally, this father would probably assume his son was abducted and that he had seen an ET as it exited his home. The truth is, throughout man's history, entities have been regularly seen.
Before the modern era of UFOs began in 1947, with pilot Kenneth Arnold's Pacific Northwest sighting of several discs, people thought spooks, ghosts, or demons were haunting a house or an individual. If in fact only the evil ETs or benevolent "space brothers" are behind abductions, why aren't millions of bewildered spouses calling local law enforcement agencies to report that their loved ones have suddenly disappeared and are presumed kidnapped? Why are there not stranded cars and trucks all over America's highways, with their doors opened and their drivers gone? Has everybody been switched off! Indeed, no one is switched off. Nobody is missing from their beds or cars; it is only mind tricks played by the innerterrestrials. Abductees meeting other abductees in real life can even be explained by the mental imagery created by innerterrestrials.
An INT, perhaps, visits one person and then scans their image for later use. This same INT then, days, months or years later replays this saved image into a future victim. Sometime later the INT returns to its original victim and plays the new scan into that victim's mind. Months or years later these same two victims, by chance, meet in real life and presto! They think they were abducted together aboard a space ship. Victims are being repeatedly visited as many abductees claim. Why are so many being visited by innerterrestrials? If hybrids are not being created, as many abductees report, what are the INTs doing?
An important clue was provided by Wes Clark of MUFON and CE-4 Research Group in Florida. George Filer, MUFON's eastern regional director, on receiving similar reports from this investigator and Wes, decided to put us in touch. Wes, it turned out, had carried his research one step further than the author's. Wes offered proof that abductions were only demonic encounters. He said several of his "abductees" had stopped their abduction experiences by screaming "Jesus is my savior" when aliens were next seen.
This investigator has since found that this same approach used by some, he knows, has also stopped their unwelcome visitors from returning. One woman told this investigator while standing in the hallway of her home in daylight that she had a haint jump on her back and try to "suffocate her." In desperation she yelled, "Jesus! Jesus! Save me!" The haint immediately flew off and has not since returned. Another individual while having a lucid dream of a dark, big-eyed, gray screamed, "Jesus is my savior!" as Wes suggested. That was nearly nine months ago and all alien related activity in his house has vanished. A third person, who believed he was an abductee, and after seeing his dog going crazy a top his bed barking at an unseen entity, performed an undescribed exorcism. That was several months ago and all his alien troubles have ended. The simple "cure" is, admittedly, totally dumb-founding. While the relationship between abductions and paranormal activity has been documented by many investigators, this is compelling proof that abductions have nothing to do with space kidnappings. If high-tech ETs are behind the abduction madness, why would one's belief in God stop abductions cold? Such Jesus-laced utterings would not have stopped earthbound evils, so why would they halt highly advanced and technologically sophisticated ETs from abducting?
Innerterrestrials are real. They are a threat and, in the author's opinion, conditioning mankind for their own sinister purposes. As man's technology exponentially advances, we are increasingly becoming the threat to the innerterrestrials. This could explain the upsurge in INT abductions. While there is still no conclusive physical proof that ETs are visiting earth, there is over half-a-century of credible eyewitness reports to suggest that extraterrestrials are here. Sometimes INTs and ETs play on the same "fields" but their objectives are different, and with the extraterrestrials, their motivations unknown. True UFOs should be the providence for our best scientists to investigate. Conversely, religious leaders, and not UFO investigators, should be investigating "abductions." Detailed warnings and the dangers of INT contamination should be given to the clergy's cherished congregations. Not just mutterings about taking care against the "devil and his agents," but real warnings of how the innerterrestrials actually do their dirty work. Special attention should be provided to parents that their children are vulnerable to mind-conditioning or, worse, "dumbing-down" attempts by innerterrestrials.
Until clouded abduction reports are placed in the true paranormal arena they belong, ufologists cannot expect mainstream scientists to seriously investigate UFO sightings. There is no proof that extraterrestrials are kidnapping people. There are tens of thousands of credible anomalous airborne sightings by equally amazing numbers of impressive and reliable witnesses to suggest many UFOs are real. Ufologists need to work with what they have the best chance to scientifically prove.

In 2004, experiencer Hector Acevedo was interviewed about his 1997 close encounter with a UFO. Information is below.
-----
Erick Bellido Interviews Hector Acevedo:
"I Was Abducted by a UFO"
A humble tradesman of the 9th Region (Chile is politically divided into Regions, which are equivalent to provinces or states) descrbed his close encounter of the 3rd kind, an event that thrust him into frenzied panic after his car was intercepted by an unknown vehicle that enveloped his sedan in a powerful light.
SANTIAGO (Chile) February 5.- On a winter's day in 1997, Hector Acevedo was driving his white Daihatsu Charade distributing milk products throughout the Ninth Region. Every day he covered a different route, supplying his product to small and medium-sized rural businesses. In mid-July of that year, his company assigned him to cover a pre-sales rout between the towns of Los Sauces and Purén, half and hour distant from each other by car. At 20:00 hours by the clock, Acevedo had finished his duties for the day and had gone to retrieve some household appliances he had dropped off for repair. So it was that while he put the appliances into his trunk, the owner of the repair shop told him that some strange lights had been flying overhead at lightning speed. Acevedo paid little heed: it was a clear night and there was no sign of bad weather.
Several minutes later, when he was about to reach Los Sauces, the lonely driver was confronted by a phenomenon that would scar him for the rest of his life.
EB: What was it you saw on that occasion?
HE: I was driving along when a circular object appeared before me just as I was taking a curve. It was flying at low altitude and I estimate that it measured between 15-20 meters in diameter.
EB: How did you react?
HE: Just imagine running into a giant thing almost on top of you and hanging in mid-air. The truth is that I was very tense and broke into a cold sweat.
EB: So what happened at that time?
HE: Well, this thing hovered over my car and surrounded it in a beam of light that subsequently drained off, in other words, it lost power.
EB: How fast were you driving?
HE: I was driving at more or less 80 kilometers, but when the object appeared, the car's RPMs dropped to 20 kmh.
EB: You must've braked suddenly!
HE: No sir, I never braked. The car appeared to steer itself, because I couldn't even handle the steering wheel.
EB: Those minutes must've been complicated.....
HE: They were endless. No one has been able to give me a satisfactory explanation for this experience. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
EB: Did the phenomenon progress or did it remain stationary?
HE: During the nearly 10 minutes it lasted, the mass had a reddish hue and another shade-a violet one-would appear in the center. But the strange thing was that it didn't cast any light outward. On the other hand, the light that enveloped my car changed its intensity from pale white to intense white. It was so strong I couldn't even distinguish my shoes or the brake and accelerator pedals.
EB: How did this close encounter end?
HE: The truth is that I don't know. I have no memories whatsoever after what I told you. What's odd is that I finally reached Los Sauces after 23:00 hours and I never knew how I did it. I just don't recall.
EB: How do you interpret your experience?
HE: I don't know. I think I was abducted by a UFO.
EB: Why did you decide to tell your story?
HE: So if this should ever happen to someone else, he or she won't be accused of being a nut, because after having experienced something like this, one becomes sensitized, especially toward strange phenomena. At first I sought support in my friends, because I was even afraid to tell my wife of the experience.
EB: Do you think it's important to make these cases known?
HE: It's just that we're not ready for this, and that's the fact.
EB: And when you reached home, what did your wife say?
HE: She was scared when she saw me. My face was a pale, leaden color, and my body ached so much it was like someone who'd been hit by a train and survived. I was lucky to live to tell the tale.....

In November and December 1980, the eastern side of Britain was experiencing a major UFO sighting wave. There were chases of UFOs by police cars near the coast, a UFO that overflew an oil rig in the North Sea, and the wave culminated in the famous events on the East Anglian coast at Rendlesham Forest.
Just a month before these landings beside those NATO air bases, one of the most impressive alien abduction cases took place in the small Penninemill town of Todmorden, West Yorkshire, right in the centre of Britain's most active window area known locally as "UFO Alley".
Police Constable Alan Godfrey was on patrol on the night of 28 November 1980. Just before dawn he drove along Burnley Road on the edge of Todmorden looking for some cows that had been reported missing. They were only found after sun-up, mysteriously relocated in a rain-soaked field without hoofmarks to indicate their passage.
Giving up his nocturnal hunt, Godfrey was about to go back to base to sign off duty when he saw a large mass a few hundred yards ahead. At first, he thought it was a bus coming towards him that took workers to their jobs in town and that he knew passed about 5:00 a.m.
But as he approached, he realized that it was something very strange. It was a fuzzy oval that rotated at such speed and hovered so low over the otherwise deserted highway that it was causing the bushes by the side to shake.
The police officer stopped, propped onto his windscreen a pad that was in the patrol car to make sketches of any road accidents, and drew the UFO. Then there was a burst of light, and the next thing he knew he was driving his car again, further along Burnley Road, with no sign of the UFO.
Godfrey turned around and examined the spot where the UFO had hovered. The road was very wet as it had rained heavily earlier in the night. But just at this one location was a circular patch where the roadway had been dried in a swirled pattern. Only when back at the police station did he realise that it was a little later than he had expected - although any missing time was probably no greater than 15 minutes from estimates later taken on site.
Concerned as to possible ridicule, Godfrey at first chose not to make an official report, but changed his mind later that day when he discovered he was not alone. After breakfast that morning, a driver who had been on Burnley Road three miles further out at Cliviger reported seeing a brilliant white object and contacted Todmorden police.

The time matched that of Alan Godfrey's. Furthermore, a police patrol from an adjacent force (Halifax) had been engaged in a stakeout for stolen motorcycles on the moors of the Calder Valley and had witnessed a brilliant blue-white glow descending into the valley towards Todmorden shortly before Godfrey experienced his close encounter. Their story, when it reached Todmorden police station, formed a second match.
Encouraged by this news Godfrey filed an official report, but was surprised when police chose to release the story to the local newspaper the following week. From here, UFOlogists discovered the case and a lengthy investigation was mounted by a Manchester-based UFO group.
Although Alan Godfrey had no further conscious recall of the missing time, he did have increasingly confused memory of the sequence of events surrounding the sighting (with an unexplained image of seeing himself outside the car during the sighting). There was also puzzling physical evidence.
His police-issue boots were split on the sole, as if he had been dragged along the floor and they had caught on something.
He also reported a previous history of seeing other strange things and having experienced at least one earlier time lapse as a youth—factors that UFOlogists have come to recognise as common with abduction cases.
When sure that all conscious testimony had been recorded, Godfrey agreed to be hypnotically regressed by a Manchester psychiatrist eight months after the incident. He eventually had several other sessions with different therapists, and his recall in later sessions was video-taped.
The doctor refused permission to the UFO group for the first session to be recorded.
The hypnotic testimony is very odd, and Godfrey was never to be sure what really happened. Under regression he told of the bright light stopping the car engine, causing his radio and police handset both to be filled with static and then to be swamped by blinding light as he lost consciousness.
His next recall was of being inside a strange room, more like a house than a spaceship, complete with a most unexpected large black dog. He was studied by a heavily bearded man who telepathically conveyed that his name was "Yosef" and whose clothing was very Biblical in nature.
Assisting Yosef were several small robot-like creatures "the size of a five-year-old lad" and with "a head shaped like a lamp". They are reminiscent of the "Grays" of UFO lore; although with major differences.
Godfrey was supposedly asked questions, told that he "knew" Josef, and was promised a later encounter. But apparently he was not subjected to the more familiar indignities of abduction stories (especially from the US), such as bodily fluid samples and rectal probes.
Although there were periods of missing memory, the hypnotic recall that did emerge was a curious hybrid of mythic images, UFO case elements and dream like sequences.
When asked his opinion as to the reality status of this hypnotic testimony, Alan Godfrey was refreshingly honest. He told me he was certain that the UFO encounter was real, but he could not determine whether the story offered by hypnosis was a dream, a fantasy, reality, or a mixture of all three.
Unhappily, Alan Godfrey suffered terribly after this encounter. When I first wrote up the investigation (just before the regression hypnosis began) for Flying Saucer Review magazine in l981, I deliberately changed his identity to help protect him; although this was probably futile because the story had already been featured in the local press under Godfrey's real name.
However, despite my refusal to assist them, a tabloid reporter traced the witness and devoted a front-page banner headline article to the story — read by millions over the Sunday lunch—which led to the officer being called to explain himself before his superiors.
He was forced to undergo medical investigation to determine his "status", but was pronounced psychologically fit and healthy. Yet after some years feeling that he would never be allowed to forget his sighting, he took advice to honorably resign over an unrelated physical injury incurred during an incident in which he bravely intervened to avert a crime.
Todmorden, both before 1980 and in the years since, has been a hotbed of alien contact activity with several other major encounters having been investigated, including another abduction of a truck driver from Burnley Road only a little further out of Todmorden and on the same highway.

The Event:
The Allagash Waterway is a series of lakes and canals in the breathtaking mountains of Maine. This lovely area would be the site of one of the most discussed and best documented alien abduction cases on record. A dramatized version was featured on the "Unsolved Mysteries" television show.
The Allagash incident would involve multiple witnesses, four to be exact, twin brothers Jack and Jim Weiner, along with their friends Chuck Rak and Charlie Foltz. The four men had met while studying at the Massachusetts College of Art, and they were all beginning their respective careers.
The four artists would turn into sportsmen for what they thought would be an enjoyable, relaxing trip. Their trip to Allagash would be memorable, but not for the reasons they had hoped for.
It would be in August 1976, that the four men began their vacation, and part way through their canoeing, they reached Eagle Lake, padding to it's mouth to do some fishing. Not having any luck, and running low on food, they decided to try some night fishing. Before leaving the bank, they built an extremely large campfire to be a landmark light from the water.
After a time on the lake, the four suddenly saw a light... a light that seemed much brighter than a star. The glowing orb was hovering over the trees a couple of hundred yards away. The object changed colors as it moved back and forth; red, then green, then a whitish yellow.
The massive object was estimated to be about 80 feet in diameter. The object slowly moved across the tops of the trees along the bank, and as it came closer to the four fishermen, Charlie Foltz signaled an SOS with his flashlight. Immediately, the object silently moved toward the canoe.
A guarded curiosity now turned into a frantic dash for the bank. As they paddled as fast as they could, a hollow light came from the object, engulfing the men and their canoe. The next thing the men knew, they were standing on the bank again. Charlie pointed his flashlight toward the object again, but this time it rose up and out of their view, as it showed it's beam once more before disappearing into the Allagash sky.
Wondering what had transpired, the men were shocked to see their once glowing fire to be nothing but smoldering ashes. This should have taken several hours, and the four friends wondered, "What happened to the last couple of hours?"
Very little was said as the four men packed up their gear and went back to the everyday grinds of their respective careers. In time the night of the UFO would begin to have a profound effect on their lives.
Jack Weiner was the first to start having nightmares. In these dreams, he saw beings with long necks, and large heads. He saw the beings examining his arm, while Jim, Chuck, and Charlie sat on a nearby bench, not able to intervene.
The beings had large metallic glowing eyes with no lids, and their hands were insect-like, with four fingers. The other three men were experiencing very similar dreams, with short, mental clips of that awful night on the lake. In 1988, out of curiosity, Jim Weiner attended a UFO conference hosted by Raymond Fowler.
Weiner met Fowler afterwards, and related his strange encounter. The investigator was excited about Jim's story, especially the fact that it was a multiple witness occurrence. Fowler suggested to Jim that he and the others undergo regressive hypnosis. After the sessions, it was revealed that all four of the men had been abducted, and subjected to humiliating physical examinations, including the taking of skin and fluid samples.
The men's description of the aliens was consistent, and being artists, they were able to make detailed sketches of the entities, the craft, and the examining instruments. Chuck Rak added that the aliens' test area was similar to a vet's office, with a silvery table. He also related a strange fact: he had much difficulty in focusing on the aliens. When he tried, he could not put an exact image to them.
He compared it to trying to tune in a fuzzy radio station.
After the psychiatric examinations, all four of the men were deemed to be mentally stable, and they all passed lie-detector tests. All of the information gleaned from the detailed hypnotic sessions, and investigative reports provide strong evidence that something "not of this world" was encountered by these four men on the Allagash Waterway in 1976. This case is still considered unexplainable by conventional scientific means.

Aftermath:
When you chat with Anthony Constantino, there's always one inevitable question: "Do you believe them?" "Them" is a group of four friends who went camping on the Allagash Waterway in northern Maine in the summer of 1976.
Maybe you saw them recently on the Joan Rivers Show, where they detailed an ordeal in which they claimed they had a close encounter with a UFO.
They are receiving national attention with the release this summer of "The Allagash Abductions" written by Raymond Fowler of Wenham who is a director of investigations for the Mutual UFO Network.
Those who are familiar with this case know that the full story, with all its mysterious and harrowing details, wasn't revealed until Anthony Constantino of Beverly placed the four men under hypnosis, and revealed events that had been pushed into their unconscious.
"It was the most intense experience I've had as a hypnotist," says Constantino.
The conscious part of the story begins on Thursday, August 26, 1976, when the four men - Chuck Rak, Charlie Foltz, and identical twins Jim and Jack Weiner, set up camp on Eagle Lake in Maine, and decided to go fishing in the evening. They built a huge bonfire to act as a beacon for their return to camp.
Soon after they were out in their canoe, they saw "a large bright sphere of colored light hovering motionless and soundless about 200 to 300 feet above the southeastern rim of the cove," according to Rak.
Foltz blinked a flashlight at the object. Maybe that was a bad idea. The UFO began to approach the canoe, while a cone-shaped beam of light from the object struck the water and began following the canoe. More inspired than any Olympic athletes, the four campers began paddling for shore.
But the beam engulfed them, and the next thing they remembered, they were in the canoe, near the shore of the lake, watching the UFO ascend and disappear.
The bonfire was now nothing more than embers. Built with heavy logs, the fire should have lasted hours. It was the first indication that more time had elapsed than they could remember, but they had no conscious memory of what had happened.
It was years later before the four men explored that missing period of time. When Jim Weiner suffered tempero-limbic epilepsy, his doctors asked him to report any unusual experiences that might be symptomatic.
Weiner described his UFO experience, and various phenomena that had happened to him and his camping buddies since then. His doctors suggested he contact a UFO researcher.
Enter Anthony Constantino. A professional hypnotist from Beverly, who also works as an English teacher at Masconomet High School, Constantino had hypnotized Ray Fowler in 1988, helping him to remember the details of Fowler's own alleged abduction in Danvers.
Fowler was leading the investigation of the Allagash abductions for the Mutual UFO Network, and he wanted Constantino to hypnotize each of the four men separately.
All four men were willing to participate.
"It's natural," says Constantino. "They wanted to know if something had happened to them -- especially if it were something traumatic. They wanted to know for sure."
In 1989, in the dark den of Constantino's Beverly home, each of the four men separately recounted a tale of being beamed aboard the UFO that night on Eagle Lake.
Under hypnosis, they described the diffusely lit, sterile interior of the spacecraft, the spindly fingered big-eyed bald-headed aliens that Whitley Strieber popularized with his non-fiction book "Communion," and strange medical experiments conducted on each man.
Constantino says Fowler was cool and professional as he observed the 12 hours of hypnosis sessions, but Constantino admits that at times he had difficulty repressing his own astonishment.
"I'm the one who kept making faces at Ray, like, I can't believe this. I can't believe what was done to these guys."
Which brings us back to The Question. Constantino conducted three-hour hypnosis sessions with each of the four men. He heard their voices fill with fear as they explained how medical instruments were inserted into their bodies, and how communication from the aliens was telepathic.
Constantino says he went into the session "with no preconceived notions," nothing more than a healthy curiosity about an unexplained phenomenon.
But was he convinced?
"Do you believe them?" Constantino is asked.
He pauses and rubs his chin, as if weighing the gravity of the question.
He looks up and nods solemnly. "I do," he says. After working with those guys, I was scared. I still am. I think it's true. I think they were being tagged -- the way we tag and study sharks and bears and then release them.
The men were highly indignant that they were taken (aboard) and these things were done to them without their permission.

Background on the CE-5 (Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind) Initiative by CSETI (Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence) (Director: Steven Greer, MD - Website: www.cseti.org):
Definition: CE-5 is a term describing a fifth category of close encounters with Extraterrestrial Intelligence (ETI), characterized by mutual, bilateral communication rather than unilateral contact. The CE-5 Initiative has as its central focus bilateral ETI-human communication based on mutual respect and universal principles of exchange and contact. CE types 1-4 are essentially passive, reactive and ETI initiated. A CE-5 is distinguished from these by conscious, voluntary and proactive human-initiated or cooperative contacts with ETI. Evidence exists indicating that CE-5s have successfully occurred in the past, and the inevitable maturing of the human/ETI relationship requires greater research and outreach efforts into this possibility. While ultimate control of such contact and exchange will (and probably should) remain with the technologically more advanced intelligent life forms (i.e., ETI), this does not lessen the importance of conscientious, voluntary human initiatives, contact and follow-up to conventional CE-s types 1-4.
CSETI is the only worldwide effort to concentrate on putting trained teams of investigators into the field where 1) active waves of UFO activity are occurring, or 2) in an attempt to vector UFOs into a specific area for the purposes of initiating communication. Contact protocols include the use of light, sound, and thought. Thought - specifically consciousness - is the primary mode of initiating contact.

Introduction:
The following is an account - from my point of view - of events that occurred during a CSETI investigative team activation to Monterrey, Mexico in Decemer of 1994. While necessarily somewhat subjective based on my own experiences, every attempt has been made to present an accurate depiction of events that were experienced by myself and our team.
CSETI Reacts to Flap in Mexico:
After seeing a tape of a "Hard Copy" program showing an active wave of UFO activity in Monterrey, Mexico - the third largest metropolis in Mexico - we made an effort to contact the researcher who had taken those videos. Santiago Yturria is a thorough researcher and skilled videographer who, along with Diana Perla Chapa, the host of a popular live talk show on Mexican network television, has had a UFO group for over 20 years in the state of Nuevo Leone.
Dr. Steven Greer, international director of CSETI, activated a CSETI Rapid Mobilization Investigative Team (RMIT) to Monterrey to investigate this current flap. Santiago, Diana, and the entire Ovni Club of N.L. assisted us, took us to sites, shared their evidence and graciously welcomed us to Monterrey. Dr. Greer, myself, a woman from New York and a man, also a videographer, from Minneapolis made up the CSETI team. (Names furnished upon request.)
Consciousness Connections:
Lucid dream activity played a significant role in the events that unfolded in Monterrey. Three of the team had dreams that proved to be portents of happenings on this project. I had a dream in the early hours of December 13th. In it, the extraterrestrials were showing us the spot where we should come in order to have a meeting with them. They showed me aerial views, in stop motion - each one closer to the ground - and marked the site with a strobing turquoise laser pattern. They showed me a view from the ground, looking up at some steep peaks, and showed it to me both in day and nighttime views. The night view revealed two stars in a particular configuration over one of the peaks.
That very afternoon, Santiago and his friends drove us to Las Mitres mountains, well known as an area of many sightings of UFOs. As we approached, it dawned on me that it was identical to what I was shown in my dream. We decided to use the spot as our field research site that night. When we came to Las Mitres (so named because the mountain peaks resemble a bishop's miter hat) that night, the two stars were indeed in the sky in the same position as I had seen in my lucid dream.
The Team Gets to Work:
The CSETI team had observed some anomalous objects in the sky at two different sites on the nights of December 11th and 12th, but the next two nights, the 13th and 14th at the Las Mitres sites, proved to be exceptional. The Las Mitres mountains contain a large cave where the local investigators believe that spacecraft conceal themselves when coming to the Monterrey area. And, unusually dense low clouds were known to form over the cave and other parts of the peaks very quickly. On the night of December 13th, the entire CSETI team set up camp at the base of Las Mitres. We were joined by an American woman who was a friend of one of our teammates, who was married to a Mexican man and living in Monterrey. She had arranged our lodging and transportation for us.
Around 10:30 pm, following our first Coherent Thought Sequencing (a CSETI protocol) session, we observed a very bright light that appeared in the zenith of the sky, traveling rapidly in an upward arc that terminated in the center of the constellationOrion. At 10:45 pm, very dense clouds materialized within a minute on parts of the sheer mountain cliffs.
The Close Encounters Begin:
At approximately 1:00 am, Dr. Greer and another team member were standing slightly down the gravel road when they observed a bright, strobe-like white light to appear at the edge of the mountain. At about the same time, I had gotten up and walked closer towards the brush at the base of the mountain. Dr. Greer looked for me to tell me of the strobe light and found me at the spot where it had appeared. As we stood there, another round light came rolling down the side of the steep slope. Just then, I felt some invisible energy that felt as if it were gently pulling me in deeper to the brush. Both Dr. Greer and I felt there was a presence nearby that, from past experience, led us to feel there was a spacecraft and extraterrestrial beings very nearby.
Just then, I began to perceive small, square-shouldered beings in the brush around us. They could be sensed and dimly seen, but a clear view of them wasn't possible. The little beings were extremely shy and reticent. They would scurry close to us, then backtrack quickly into the brush. We could not hear any brush moving or footsteps but we could dimly see them. To me, they seemed to have on uniforms that covered their body and legs that were a dull orange-rust color. They were very short, just up to my knees (I am 5'7"). I became aware of a telepathic message - they were concerned about our video camera, behind me to the right. I turned my head and looked. Sure enough, unknown to me previously as I had not seen it in the dark, was our teammate's professional camera set up on a tripod. I send back the mental message to them not to worry, the camera wasn't on and we wouldn't let him touch it. They seemed to trust my assurance, as the event continued to unfold. I related this two-way communication to Dr. Greer, who went back to the other three people and instructed them to stay where they were unless he called them forward.
These rich, rare exchanges with what appear to be extraterrestrial life forms are very delicate scenarios. Any sudden, rash or extreme emotion or movement can thwart the entire event and bring it to a screeching halt, and the extraterrestrials vanish. Sometimes our second-guessing of what is needed to allow an event to unfold in all its possible fullness is accurate; sometimes it is not. It is almost like hesitant dance partners, longing but afraid to get closer. Until we as a people are more accepting of close contact with extraterrestrials, our interactions are likely to continue in this way.
I could mentally 'hear' concerned conversation going on amongst the small beings. They eventually conveyed to me the message, again mentally, that they were having difficulty adjusting our energies in preparation for a meeting because my physical energy was concentrated on my stomach, trying to digest some food. Just before all this began, I had eaten about a half of a Power Bar, a dense protein energy food. It was cold and hard from being in my gear bag for hours and I could feel it kind of just laying in my stomach. At this point, I sent a very deliberate message to the life forms: "I give you permission to take it out of my body". Suddenly, I felt as if someone were standing some distance away with a fishing line whose hook was inside my stomach. It felt as if someone were slowing reeling in the line as the food came back out the way it went in. Now, I detest vomiting more than almost anything and I was struck by the gentleness that was used in removing this food from my body. It was only mildly unpleasant. Dr. Greer, an emergency physician, asked me if I was alright. I told him that I was fine and that this was being done with my permission. After this little purging, the energy felt softer, with less intense vibration.
Soon the little beings sent both Dr. Greer and I the message that if we removed our glasses, we would be able to see them better. Although I normally use contact lenses, glasses are preferable for field work when wind and dust often gets blown into my eyes, plus the fact that we are often in the field until the wee hours of the morning. After receiving this message, we each removed our glasses. One last request from the little ETs - that we remove our hats (it had been a chilly night.) At this point, I could actually feel a harmonious flow of energy between us, the little beings, and some other unseen source.
Another Being is Perceived:
At this point, the small life forms disappeared. Shafts of golden light began to come from an unknown, unseen source and lay across the bushes in front of us. We learned later that the three other team members behind us could see this as well, although they had not been able to perceive the small beings. I could feel one of these shafts of light approach me and fill my torso with a warm, golden glow. After the light rays faded, a large oval of bluish fog began to form about ten feet in front of us. As the blue mist began to coalesce, Dr. Greer and I became aware of a being within it. Although again we could see him only dimly, he appeared very humanoid, tall, with long and straight silverish hair. He appeared to be clothed in a light blue and silver uniform.
We learned later that one team member saw a tendril of the blue fog travel along the ground towards her. It frightened her a little until the mist reached her foot and began to send wisps around her feet. She later told us that there was a gentle kindness about the fog and all misgivings vanished. However, our American friend who was not an actual team member became very frightened by the golden light and blue fog.
We learned later that it was all too much for her - something the extraterrestrial would tell us. For as we stood there facing one another, the tall being sent us a message that they would very much like to manifest more fully in the physical to meet with us, but that if they did so, one of our team members would be dangerously frightened. Their caution and concern were touching. And a far cry from the crying wolf that goes on so often when extraterrestrials are said to be heartless, devoid of feeling, and out to harm human beings. We in CSETI feel that this type of encounter points up the absolute need and appropriateness of doing real-time field work in our efforts to learn exactly what these beings are all about.
It is important, and interesting, to note that both Dr. Greer and myself received nearly identical mental messages each time there was a communication from the extraterrestrial.
Dr. Greer and I consulted one another and decided to send a joint message. We told the tall being that if they could not come to us, it was okay with us if they could take us to where they were. We could sense this was being discussed with a 'central command control', or his more senior team members. Dr. Greer and I saw a copper-gold sphere, ten to twelve feet in diameter, begin to coalesce to the left of the tall being. It never reached material solidity but soon began to disperse. The tall being then sent us a message that it would frighten our teammates just as much to see us disappear in front of their eyes as it would for the ETs to manifest right there. At this time, we had no idea that any member of our team was having difficulty coping with these events.
Soon Again, Soon Again:
Finally, after what seemed like a few moments, the tall being sent us a message that they would not be able to manifest fully in the physical this night. But they sent a message: "soon again; soon again". At this point, Dr. Greer went back to speak with the other team members and I stayed put. For the next five minutes, the being and I exchanged blessings toeach other, to our teams. It was poignant and lovely. I cannot recall any of the actual 'words' or specific communications; it was not a left-brained exchange, but was beyond the bounds of linear thought.
Their Reluctance is Proven Out:
When I joined the others, I learned that our American friend had become extremely frightened, so much so that she had taken refuge in our vehicle. We had designated the big Suburban as the 'safe area". We do this on all our field research - setting aside a specific enclosure that any team member can go to if unfolding events prove fearful to them. In fact, it is our policy to send a 'buddy' along, who remains with them the entire time they wish to stay in the safe area. We divide into buddies at the beginning of our field session so that each team member is accounted for, and accountable, at all times. She told us that if she had seen anything more from the ETs, she would have run screaming down the mountainside.
Preparation is Key:
Her reactions impressed upon us the importance of training for each team member. It served as a strong reminder to us to be more stringent in adherence to our policies regarding untrained guests who wanted to join our field work.
Much to my surprise, Dr. Greer and I learned from our teammates that we had been standing there, exchanging communication with the extraterrestrials, for nearly two hours. We both thought no more than thirty minutes had elapsed. By this time, it was nearly 3:00 am, so we broke camp and went home.
The Encounters Continue:
The following day was a busy one with an appearance on Diana Chapa's live TV show in the morning, a field trip to another site in the afternoon, and a talk at the Ovni Club that evening. It was about 11:30 pm by the time we were driving up the narrow road to our Las Mitres site.
Interestingly, our videographer teammate was absent from field work. He had decided to stay in the city to visit his friend and her son. As the Suburban headed up the gravel lane, Dr. Greer and I simultaneously observed a small, bright light on the side of Las Mitres. We knew from the previous night that there was no light normally in that area. Tonight we also had with us our American friend's Mexican husband. He and our driver assured us there were no houses, no power lines, no roads, nothing on the sheer cliffs of Las Mitres.
As we came to the base of the mountain, Dr. Greer jumped from the Suburban while it was still rolling. The other woman and I jumped out and grabbed the bare necessities of field gear: a 500,000 candle power portable halogen light, our night vision scope, binoculars, a small camcorder, and a hand-held micro-cassette recorder.
Because of the reaction by an untrained participant the previous night, we sent our driver and his friend down the road. We told them we could not afford any panic this night. Unbeknownst to us at the time, the men went to a spot at the bottom of the road where they could clearly see the events that unfolded.
Are We in a Spielberg Movie?:
Dr. Greer grabbed the halogen light and sent a signal to the star-like light on the hillside. Instantly, the light transformed into a gigantic, brilliant round beam that shot light down the entire mountainside! We were astonished. It came close to being the time we always joke about - when events are so incredible that we'll wish we had on "Depends" undergarments! We continued to have a Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind - a human-initiated or human-interactive experience - with this craft for the next two hours and fifteen minutes. An exchange like this, with a team in the field, is unprecedented.
During the lengthy encounter, we sent light signals to the craft. The craft would signal back to us in the exact same sequence. Then its lights would extinguish. Within a few minutes, it would again illuminate and initiate a signal to us. This went on and on. Twice during this time period, we saw the shadows of beings walking in front of the blinding beam. At times, the beam would rotate upon itself, appearing to the left of its original position - then back where it was. Once the light seemed to turn over on itself, illuminating the sparsely forested slope behind it. This was one of the times when figures were seen to move in the beam.
Hoaxability Ration - Low to Zero:
It must be emphasized that this is a very remote area devoid of roads. For anyone to have hoaxed this event would have required something on the scale of a major motion picture crew. There was simply no way to have moved equipment like this onto these sheer slopes. It would have caused quite a commotion in the suburbs below if a crew of that magnitude had traversed those sheer cliffs that day. The area would have been swarming with lookie-loos.
At the end of the two hours and fifteen minutes, the light, which by now had split into two candle-flame colored round lights, turned to brilliant red, shot out a lightning bolt of energy and vanished. We saw a golden streak shoot through the sky towards the direction of the ancient volcano, Topochico. And the energy was gone. It was not until this point that we fully appreciated that
1) we'd been standing up for all that time, and
2) our hair had stood on end the entire time.
As a side note, I want to report that when we first got out of the vehicle at the base of the mountain, I heard crickets chirping in stereophonic synchronicity. One would chirp on our right, then one would chirp on our left. The chirping was loud and distinct. When I heard it, I told my teammates that it was significant. I had heard similar chirping prior to another major encounter in the past. It was moments later that the gigantic craft illuminated before us.
Eventful Trip Home:
We signalled to our drivers to bring up the Suburban. When they arrived, we learned that the men had gone to a vantage point and had seen everything, giving us two independent witnesses. In fact, from their extra distance the light was not so blinding and they were able to discern the craft. They both reported seeing a very large disc-shaped craft with a domed top. The men were extremely excited. They said they felt bonded now, like brothers. The American's husband said that his life would never be the same again.
As we were riding on our 30-minute drive home, Dr. Greer remarked that he felt the ETs would follow us. Within a minute, the man in front was exclaiming, "la luz, la luz!" (the light, the light!) We could then see that the gigantic light was visible from the road, showing itself to us on the opposite side of the mountain from where it had been at our field site! We stopped at a closed gas station, signalled and videoed (which came out fuzzy and blurred). You will recall that, of all nights, our videographer was not with us this night. Coincidence or orchestrated by the ETs? So many such things happen that we have to ponder the possibility. This time, the light was not appearing as two lights side by side. Instead, they were two lights stacked one on top the other. We continued to observe it on the remainder of the homeward ride, stopping twice more to observe.
When we arrived home, we climbed up to our flat roof. We could still see it, even though the entire valley of the city of Monterrey was now between us, the back side of Las Mitres and the rest of the range. The lights were still there. They had changed position again and were now staggered, one atop the other. They had been so bright that we could see the rock face behind it illuminated. As we watched, the lights dimmed down to about half their luminosity.
The Craft Revealed:
At this point, we could clearly see the structure of the craft. It was indeed a large disc with a sloped dome on top. By measuring with fingers at arm's length, Dr. Greer determined that the craft was between one-half to one full city block in size.
As the birds began to sing and the sky began to lighten, we bid goodbye and heartfelt thanks to our visitors for these remarkable experiences and went inside to sleep, and dream of them.

Final Notes: I wish to advise that the three persons who interacted with the craft as described above included three very responsible and stable individuals. Dr. Greer is a practicing trauma physician, father of four, world-renowned expert on extraterresrial intellignce. He is the founder of CSETI, and the visionary and guiding force of it. Our teammate from New York is cofounder of a research foundation, and is personal friends with world leaders in both the political and private sectors. And I myself have been educated in the sciences and the law and worked for many years as a paralegal, which gives me a logical mind upon which to base my ongoing extraterrestrial experiences.

Cosford: An Enduring Mystery
by Nick Redfern
In 1995, the Royal Air Force facility at Cosford, near Wolverhampton, is probably known for its huge museum which is home to an impressive collection of vintage military and civil aircraft. More than thirty years ago, however, Cosford became briefly famous for an entirely different reason.
At around 11.30pm on the evening of December 10, 1963, a dome-shaped UFO touched down on the base, bathed the surrounding area in a beam of green light, and was seen at close quarters by at least two RAF apprentices. At least, that has been the accepted story for the last three decades.
In accordance with the British Government's 'thirty year ruling' the Ministry of Defence's eighty page file on the case has recently been declassified and is now available for inspection at the Public Record Office. Its contents make for interesting reading.
Rumours that something extraordinary had occurred at the base surfaced almost immediately, but it was not until early January 1964 that matters escalated. On January 9, Wilfred Daniels, a UFO investigator from Stafford, had the opportunity to speak with Reverend B.G. Henry, the Chaplain at RAF Cosford, and duly put to him a number of questions relative to the alleged close encounter.
We cannot be sure what was actually said during the course of their brief conversation (both men recalled their 'chat' in markedly different ways), but a controversy was created which raged for months.
In an April 13, 1964 letter to Waverney Girvan, editor of Flying Saucer Review magazine, Wilfred Daniels reported: "Flight Lieutenant Henry said that publication of his name would cause him trouble; that it was 'more than his job was worth' to arrange a meeting between me and the two RAF apprentices; that he really ought not to be talking to me about it at all; that security had dropped right down on the whole thing."
For his part, Reverend Henry's recollection were somewhat opposed to those of Daniels. A letter from Flying Officer R.A. Roberts at Cosford, to the Air Ministry at Whitehall, stated that Flight Lieutenant Henry "categorically denies all sttaments attributed to him". Flying Officer Roberts further added that the chaplain was "seriously considering taking lefal action".
To his credit, Waverney Girvan resolved to get to the bottom of the mystery, and fired off a barrage of letters to both Cosford and the Air Ministry. As Girvan pointed out to the staff at Cosford, several contradictory explanations had been offered by the authorities to explain the encounter: 'Nothing at all', 'two drunk apprentices', 'a hoax', and, somewhat amusingly, 'a British Railways steam train' were the various theories mooted by the Air Ministry in its attempts to squelch interest in the case.
Smelling a rat, Girvan gave the incidemt pride of place in the next issue of Flying Saucer Review, and write a lenghty article on the case in the Kensignton News and West London Times. Commenting on the Government's 'self-contradictory explanations', Girvan said: 'What is it that the Air Ministry is trying so desparately to hide?'
Preferring to keep its head down, the Air Ministry fumed behind closed doors. Of particular concern to the Air Ministry, the media persisted in promotong the case: '...the Express and Star of Wolverhampton, in spite of seeking the Station's views, reported the boys' claim....,' grumbled the Ministry in an internal memorandum of March 12, 1964.
By May of that same year, the controversy had begun to die down and normality returned to RAF Cosford. The pro-UFO facrtions continued to champion the case, while the Air Ministry was more than happy to play the matter down.
So, what exactly did happen on that long gone winter's evening in December 1963? On the plus side, Waverney Girvan was a much-respected individual, well-known for his diligent researches. In addition, Wilfred Daniels had served in the military at the level of Captain - an equally credible source. Moreover, it is a proven fact that the Air Ministry did offer a variety of contradictory explanations in its attempt to dismiss the case.
On the other hand, the negative aspects of the case have to be addressed. Flight Lieutenant Henry was adamant that he had been mis-quoted by Wilfred Daniels; the possibility of him taking legal action was discussed in inter-departmental memos. Furthermore, a hand-written note which originated with the Air Ministry stated that with respect to the two apprentices who reported seeing the UFO: 'I believe the two boys in question wanted to get out of the servive - and we should not have been sorry to see them go.'
However, if nothing untoward occurred, why did the Air Ministry feel the need to offer a variety of ever-changing explanations as it sought to diffuse both public and media interest in the event?
In the final analysis, whatever truth lies behind the alleged 1963 UFO encounter at RAF Cosford, of only one thing we can be truly certain: with the release of the Government's eighty page file on the incident, the decades-old controversy looks certain to re-surface.

On October 1,1996, a small Rapid Mobilization Investigative Team (RMIT) was activated by CSETI's director and founder, Steven Greer M.D. The team journeyed to the Bonnybridge, Scotland area - scene of continuing, persistent UFO activity since the current wave began in 1994. Cohn Andrews, noted crop circle researcher, had initially informed us of the current wave. We had waited nearly two years to travel to Scotland and, amazingly the wave is still current.
We left Baltimore at 3.00 a.m. By dawn, we were landing for our first refueling stop in Goose Bay, Labrador/Newfoundland. Much to our delight, our next stop was Keflavik, Iceland. The world's best kept secret, Iceland and Greenland actually switched names as Iceland wished to keep itself tucked away at the top of the world. We flew in over offshore volcanic cones which created a terrain so lovely and eerie, it appeared to belong to another planet. Our pilots told us that these vocanoes create nearly a tropical summer climate, and that "Iceland" is covered with hot springs and waterfalls. We had been aware from Internet postings of reports of UFO sightings at "the top of the world" over the previous 3-4 weeks. We learned several days later that the volcano Loki, under Europe's largest glacier, located in southern Iceland, erupted four hours after our brief visit.
We landed in Edinburgh Scotland in the early evening and were met by CSETI member Neil Cunningham. After Neil was introduced to us via the Internet, I met him in England during the summer. Although now a Londoner, Neil grew up in the Bonnybridge area. CSETI's deepest thanks go out to Neil for being our advance person and ground crew prior to our arrival. After the usual delays with customs and rental car agencies, we traveled west to the Stirling/Denny area. We checked into the farmhouse B&B Neil had arranged for us whose owners graciously prepared a late supper for us. Then it was off to scout some of the sites where UFO activity had occurred. We met with Craig Malcolm who has started Skywatch Scotland. Craig showed us some of his recent video footage and accompanied us to a byway with a good view out over the Bonnybridge area. Except for some inconclusive distant lights, no events of importance occurred during our brief skywatch that night.
The next day dawned sunny and brisk. Autumn was just beginning to touch the emerald green landscape. We learned that we were staying in the head of the land where William Wallace's battles for the freedom of Scotland took place, and where the movie about Wallace - "Braveheart" - was filmed. Walks around the vicinity revealed scenery so breathtaking it resembled fake movie backdrops.
With Neil as our guide, we continued our investigation of various sites around Falkirk, Bonnybridge, Shieldhill and (oddly), California. Neil explained that Shieldhill was the site of an old Roman fort and mentioned that the Romans called UFOs flying shields. We wondered if sightings had occurred over the centuries and not just the last few years.
We visited Cairnpapple, Scotland's little- known 'Stonehenge' and reconned it as a possible field site. From atop the Neolithic mound, a 360 deg. range of vision afforded views of the Firth of Forth and both coasts. Cairnpapple is thought to be possibly older than Stonehenge. It looks down on the village of Torphicen, site of the preceptory that was the first temple of the Knights Templar. We learned the story of a gentleman who had been atop Cairnpapple one night when a very tall lifeform, appearing silvery, approached. The gentleman reported that the man, very possibly an extraterrestrial, was running across the countryside at about 70 miles per hour. When the lifeform came near, the witness reported that he 'growled' at him, frightening the man greatly. We suggested that perhaps it was not a growl at all but simply the lifeform's normal, if guttural, speech. The afternoon had turned cold, rainy and windy. We knew that in order to use the hill at Cairnpapple for a nightime field site, we would have to find a spot protected from the wind.
The weather remained inclement so we decided to go to the Shieldhill/California area where a pub/banquet hall's parking lot afforded a spectacular view across the valley towards Stirling and Bonnybridge. As we were gathering our gear in the wind and rain, we heard the nearby sound of bagpipes. Looking around the corner, we saw a Scotsman in kilt piping for people from the banquet hall piling into a bus. It was lovely and poignant to hear the bagpipes in the rain.
We were able to set up a small camp on the back side of the building, out of the wind and rain. Craig Malcolm joined us later. After he did, we witnessed along a ridge later determined to be approximately 30 miles away, an unusual array of rapid pulsing blinking lights. At that distance, we estimated the lights could have been as much as a mile apart. But they seemed interrelated as the number of lights visible changed often and the blinking was erratic. All video cameras were trained on the lights with little success.
However, approximately 9-10 minutes later, a similar sequence of flashing lights appeared at the opposite end of the ridge line. If these were some sort of conventional vehicles - say, emergency or highway trucks - we did not see how it would be possible for them to have traversed a serpentine dirt road 30-35 miles along a ridge line in ten minutes or less. As we observed the lights through binoculars, they changed in number and moved erratically, one light even appearing to jump over another at one point. We learned later that Craig Malcolm's video of this sighting came out quite clearly. The behavior and appearance of the lights is even more strange on video than it had appeared through the binoculars and night vision scopes.
Later that evening we moved our site to Take Me Down lookout, named for the steep and narrow road that descends to the valley floor. This lovely high ridge overlooking the entire valley between Edinburgh and Glasgow is actually pronounced the Scottish way: Tock-Me-Dune. Soon the fog obscured the entire valley. After some periods of Coherent Thought Sequencing and vectoring, the team called it a night in the wee hours. The next day was highlighted with a visit to magnificent Stirling Castle and again to areas where major sightings and encounters had occurred. On our way to dinner at an Indian restaurant we declared four-star after our first meal there, we sighted a silvery disc in the sunset sky. Dr. Greer initially felt the presence of extraterrestrial intelligence and began looking around as he was driving. A few moments later, I felt a distinct sensation, a light pressure in my chest. Dr. Greer alsoexperienced this. To his right, coming out of an unusual crescent-shaped cloud, shot a silver disc. Several of us observed this disc as it shot through the sky out of sight. Brief as it was, this was an important event. It was a CE-5 encounter. Dr. Greer had felt the presence of the craft several seconds before its appearance, and two of us felt a presence immediately prior to seeing it.
We decided to attempt to use the Cairnpapple mound for field work that night. We began the night at a site near Bonnybridge and as the weather appeared to break, we drove to Cairnpapple.
We arrived and set up our camp in a howling wind. Soon a major storm encroached and we had to leave the site. We did, however, observe some distant lights in the sky doing unusual maneuvers during our brief time there. From Cairnpapple, we traveled to another area sight for the remainder of the night's work.
The following day, half of the team explored Stirling and Loch Lomond while the other half remained at the farm. It proved propitious as the farm owners introduced them to a witness who told of his encounters with craft under intelligent control in the nearby area. He described a disc shining a light onto Drumbowie Reservoir while he was fishing late one night. Later that night we did field work at the reservoir site, although no major sightings occurred. However, on our way home, at 2:22 am as we had just come to the farm's driveway, I observed a blue-white ball of light slowly flashing on the ridge directly to our left, between 1/8 and 1/4 mile distant. I remarked to Dr. Greer that I didn't recall any radio or radar tower with white lights on top that ridge. Dr. Greer exclaimed, "there ARE no white lights on that ridge!" and ground the car to a halt.
As the three of us in our car watched, the light either changed. position or transformed into a large, triangular craft. Interestingly, it had a red flashing light on one point and a blue flashing light on the other, allowing it to blend in with conventional aircraft. However, in the center were two very large round white lights. The entire craft appeared light in color At arm's length it was 1½ inches across. Our car window was down and sunroof open. The craft was completely silent. It flew just above the top of the ridge, around a short tower with three red blinking lights. It then dipped down below the ridge, headed in the direction of Take Me Down park.
The rest of our team, in the car behind us, missed the sighting. But all of us tore out for Take Me Down. There, we observed some flashes of white light along the distant ridge. We then decided to go to the shore of Carran Valley Reservoir just a few miles away. Excited by the sighting of this huge craft and the possibility of a close encounter, we stood outside the cars and observed the area in the pre-dawn semidarkness. Again, several of the team saw flashes of white light along the ridge. The craft, however, was not seen again by 3:30 am when we returned to the farm and turned in for the night.
The next day, Saturday, was our last in Scotland. The entire team enjoyed exploring Loch Lomond during the day. That evening, Dr. Greer had agreed to speak with a group of local researchers and witnesses in Falkirk at the restaurant owned by Jim Malcolm, Craig's father. Jim Malcolm told us of his own very high-level encounters and sightings. Dr. Greer briefed the group, which slowly grew to 15 to 20 people, on the CSETI Project Starlight initiative; our research effort and the need for top-quality evidence for our Project Starlight Best Available Evidence briefing package. The generous people of the Bonnybridge area shared video evidence to be included in the briefing package. We applaud the people of the Bonnybridge, Scotland area for understanding the magnitude of what CSETI is attempting to do for the world.
We left the next day, journeying to Iceland once more. This time the entire island was obscured under a dense cloud of water vapor. Had the 5-mile high plume of volcanic ash come near our flight path, we could not have gotten home but to go the other direction around the world! We were also fortunate enough to land for refueling on the enigmatic continent of Greenland. We could not help but wonder what artifacts and mysteries are hidden beneath the miles-thick ice, millions of years old. There is a spiritual saying that "the earth shall give up her mysteries." Nowhere did it seem more likely than here.
We wish to thank all those who assisted us on this RMIT, including Neil Cunningham (newly named CSETI U.K. Coordinator), Craig, Jim and Neil Malcolm, the others who were present at our Falkirk talk, Alistair and Jennifer Steele of Topps Farm, the plane owner, pilot and co-pilot.
The Scotland RMIT team consisted or: Steven M. Greer; M.D., Elisabeth Greer; Shari Adamiak, Sandy Wright, Wayne Kilbourn; and Neil Cunningham.

INTRODUCTION:
Following is a report concerning the RMIT Events of Jan. 30 - Feb. 4, 1993. This report is an assessment of these events by Steven M. Greer M.D. and relies on the written reports of the members of the team as well as his own experiences in Mexico.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In mid - January 1993, the members of the CSETI Executive Council and the CSETI Director learned of the continuing wave of Extraterrestrial activity in the volcanic zone outside Mexico City, Mexico. As recent as Jan. 1, 1993 we were told, at least 100,000 dwellers of Mexico City had seen an Extraterrestrial spacecraft (ETS) in broad daylight. Several videotapes were made of this bright, rapidly rotating disc as it hovered over the area, and the event was covered in the Mexican national media. This was only the most recent event in a wave of sightings which began on July 11, 1991 when, during the total eclipse of the sun, thousands of Mexicans observed a similar, if not identical, daylight disc over Mexico City and other nearby cities. (These events, along with numerous videotaped craft, are chronicled in a videotape by Lee Elders entitled "Messengers of Destiny").
Convinced that a truly significant Extraterrestrial event was continuing in the volcanic zone of Mexico, CSETI's Director activated the RMIT to investigate directly these events, and if possible, interact with the extraterrestrials. This brief trip, lasting 6 days from Jan.. 30 - Feb. 4 was primarily oriented towards only fact - finding and a preliminary investigation in advance of a more lengthy research trip in the future. However, as you will see we were to experience a series of full scale human - extraterrestrial interactions over the course of these few nights in Mexico.
The RMIT consisted of five people: Dr. Steven Greer, Director of CSETI; Dr. Joseph Burkes, emergency physician and Coordinator of the Los Angeles Area CSETI Working Group; Ms. Shari Adamiak, Coordinator of RMIT and Coordinator of the Denver area CSETI Working Group; Dr. Barbie Taylor, a Clinical Psychologist in Las Vegas, NV and "Ambassador at Large" for CSETI; and Mr. Jeff Baker, the documentation specialist for the team. The members of the team were selected according to
their ability to function well as a unified team
their experience with and dedication to the CE-5 Initiative*
complimenting yet diverse skills, abilities and characteristics - (for example Dr. Burkes, in addition to his formidable organizational skills, has a good command of Spanish)
their immediate availability for the research trip.
*Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind Initiative: Human - initiated contact or interaction with Extraterrestrial Intelligence or beings, often associated with UFO activity at other CE - contact levels.
Having obtained commitments from these five people, the decision was made to convene the team at the Mexico City Airport at approximately 4 PM on Jan.. 30, 1993. What was to follow was to change forever the lives of these five researchers, and indeed, the course of the young and emerging field of Extraterrestrial studies.
Before going further, I would like to thank Lee Elders for his advice and for the fine job he has done documenting this Mexican wave. Heartfelt thanks also to Ron Russell of Denver, who helped bring these events to our attention, and whose unavoidable absence from the team was a loss felt by all of us.
A very special "thank you" goes to each and every member of the team for their dedication, unity of purpose and sacrifice. While it is true that 'the whole is greater than the sum of its parts', it was the beautiful and selfless ability of "the parts" to give themselves to "the whole" team that made this RMIT such a success.
PRELUDE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Consciousness transcends space and time; it is bound by no time and no place, and yet it is present at every place and is witness to every time. It is subtle and all - pervading, yet it is at the very core of our own being: It is that whereby we are awake; it is that whereby we are. While we are generally focused - bound if you will - to one space and one time, consciousness is essentially unbounded - and therefore, so are we . . .
Upon activation of the RMIT on Jan. 17th, a series of unusual events occurred which may be viewed as coincidental by some, synchronous by others - or even premonitory. Significantly, multiply witnessed "UFO" events began in Denver and the Asheville area where three of the five RMIT members reside as soon as the decision to activate the RMIT was made. In the week before RMIT left for Mexico, dozens of people in the Asheville area witnessed craft, some at close range, predominantly in the part of the country where the local CE-5 Working Group conducts its research. The night the decision to get to Mexico was made, a man called the CSETI office and reported that he was witnessing a huge, silent object gliding over the wilderness area near Lake Logan, very near to the site where the Executive Council had been conducting CE-5 research the night before. Coincidence? Perhaps. But at the minimum these and other events gave us the sense that something very significant awaited us in Mexico.
Then on Monday, Jan.. 25, 1993, I had a very lucid dream involving a place and time which we later learned was exactly one week in the future. We were in a green field in Mexico, and the moon was bright, greater than 1/2 full, hanging in the sky in the late afternoon, when a disc shaped UFO came into view. As it passed in the area of the sky near the moon, it connected with the team, and as we thought "move to the left", it moved to the left, and then we thought 'move to the right' and it moved to the right, and so on. This interaction was remarkable for how natural and effortless it seemed, not withstanding the strange nature of the event! This lucid, full color dream ended with a sense that something extraordinary awaited us in Mexico, now only a few days away. At the time I had this 'dream', I was completely unaware of the present phase of the moon, or the phase at which we would find it seven days hence.
But seven days hence, on Feb. 1st, 1993 we found ourselves in such a Mexican field, with the moon exactly the size and phase in which it appeared in the dream, and an event of unparalleled significance soon enveloped us. Another coincidence? Perhaps. But I think not, and even at the time of the dream, I knew it presaged extraordinary events. Convinced of this, I immediately told my wife, Emily, about this dream, and also shared it with Shari Adamiak, Jeff Baker and others.
Nor was this the only such experience involving consciousness during the week of our departure. On Friday night, Jan.. 29th, as I slept in Denver awaiting our departure the next day, I again had a very lucid dream. We were driving in a small car up a very steep road in Mexico winding through dense and cool woods after dark. Then as we rounded a curve we could see dozens, then hundreds of spacecraft brilliantly white, ascending from below a ridge into the sky. The entire sky was eventually filled with these objects. I was amazed not only at the sight of these objects, but by the fact that the forest was so dense. Since I had never been to Mexico, I assumed, wrongly, that the terrain would be desert and scrub brush, devoid of trees, and certainly lacking cool green forest! But 24 hours later, there we were driving in a small car, through the darkness into the cool high forest as the NW. slope of MT Popocatepetl (MT Popo) and our first experience awaited us there . .
Coincidence? Perhaps many of the secrets of outer space lie within inner space, in consciousness, in the essential non local nature of mind. Here we are reminded of the statement by the great physicist Erwin Schrödinger ". . . The overall number of minds is just one." and of the ancient mystic Ali who said . . . "Dost thou reckon thyself only a puny form When within thee the Universe is folded?"
I will admit that sharing this is not easy, since I know it will be used to debunk, attack and dismiss us. Nevertheless, now is not the time for secrets. A very large and emerging truth is this: That consciousness - mind stuff, if you will - is one; that as humans, we have access to this one mind; that every conscious, sentient being in the Universe is a window through which this same one mind is shining. And that at least some, if not all, of the Extraterrestrial civilizations visiting earth realize this, and most likely have applied this to science, technology, communication, and perhaps even to transportation.
The constricted view of mind as being separate from matter is an archaic intellectual construct akin to the idea of the sun revolving around the earth. And I believe, as a scientist and researcher, that we ignore this emerging truth of the non - space / non - time nature of consciousness at our own loss and peril. For could it be that star - faring civilizations, experiencing the vast distances and attendant limitations of radio and other electromagnetic communications have focused on and developed the ultimate instant network: Mind? Indeed, since non local mind is bound by neither space nor time, one may receive a communication even before it is sent . . .
DAY ONE - Saturday, January 30, 1993
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All five members of the team arrived between 4 and 5 PM, and after renting two small cars, we set out for our first stage in the volcanic zone. Joe Burkes and Jeff Baker had a bright red VW beetle while the rest of us drove a four door Nissan. The two groups communicated via small radio devices which had a limited range, but which were nonetheless helpful. Day One brought Lesson One from the school of hard knocks: Do not rent a car out of Mexico City without a Mexican driver! Within a few miles of the airport, we were stopped by corrupt, armed police who eventually robbed us. Their initial demand was for 300,000 pesos, but thanks to Joe's Spanish and negotiating skills, we got their extortionist demands lowered to 50,000 pesos (or 16 - 18 U.S. dollars). Initially, they confiscated our drivers licenses and threatened us with jail (the fact that no crime had been committed was immaterial). I mention this only as a warning to others who may travel there: this type of police harassment and corruption is very common in Mexico City - so go at your own risk. We recommend flying to an outlying city, or engaging a Mexican Driver. At the minimum, you need a Mexican contact, preferably an official, who can come to your assistance if needed.
We arrived at our first nights destination, Amecameca, at around 9 PM, and after unpacking and a brief meal, set out for a road which went up to the pass between MT Popo and MT. Iztaccihuatl (MT Izzy). I was singularly struck by the cool green forests, the road and the entire setting which perfectly matched the previous night's dream. We found a grassy area off of the road, which was infrequently traveled at that hour, and set up the research site at around 11 PM.
Then just prior to 12:30 AM, the entire group was struck by a brilliant beam of light, amber / golden in color, which suddenly emerged from the northwest sky. There were no airplane, cars or other people or homes anywhere near the remote research site. Where did this beam of light originate? Except to say that it emerged from the darkened sky, nobody can say for sure. I was startled by the light since I was facing NW and it struck me directly in the face.
This event seemed to be a contact of some type - several of us felt a distinct tingling on our skin from the light / energy beam. And the light beam struck the group after approximately 1 and 1/2 hours of Coherent Thought Sequencing (CTS), high-powered light work and use of on - site beeping tones - (all part of the CSETI CE-5 Initiative contact trilogy, wherein we intentionally attempt to contact ETI).
Later, at approximately 1 AM, an amber globe was seen coming up from the West. It disappeared briefly, but after signaling in that direction with a high powered light, it reappeared and flashed a bright white color. It then moved from left to right and was lost to view. Could this object have been related to the bright beam of light which struck the group 30 minutes earlier? At a little past 2 AM, we departed for our hotel, wondering what awaited us in the coming days. Certainly, our first few hours in Mexico were event - filled, even intimate in the nature of the light beam experiences. There was something very direct and personal about how the group was engulfed in this light beam, however briefly. As I prepared for bed, I wondered if the group had been 'scanned' by some craft which had locked onto our group. Or were they simply returning our light beams in an enigmatic fashion?
DAY TWO - Sunday, January 31, 1993
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day, Sunday, Jan.. 31, 1993, we awakened to the color and bustling activity of the town of Amecameca. After consulting as a group, and studying the maps of the area and past sightings reports, we decided to leave the area for a remote site on the other side of the volcanoes. (The exact site will remain unnamed in this report, since we consider it an active RMIT site and we wish to preserve its integrity and security for future RMIT use).
Here, a note about the volcanic zone is in order. Above Mexico City looms the largest volcano in the world. At just under 18,000 feet, it is snow capped at the summit and is a magnificent sight. Around the time of the solar eclipse and onset of the current wave of ETS sightings. The volcano Popo became more active, and vulcanologists have warned of a possible calamitous eruption, with attendant earthquakes in the Mexico City area. 30 million people would be affected, perhaps catastrophically by such an eruption of Popo. Indeed, the local village had organized an emergency evacuation committee, and there is genuine concern that such an eruption may be imminent.
There is speculation that the intense presence of ETS in the area is related to this recent upsurge in Mt. Popo's activity. Some believe the Extraterrestrial people are monitoring the situation and may even be involved in a project to somehow reduce the force of any future eruption. I must admit, that both our retrospective survey of past sightings and our own real - time observations lead me to conclude that the Extraterrestrials are there for reasons related to the volcano's recent increase in activity. To precisely what end remains to be discovered.
Even during our brief stay in the area, we observed an increase in the steam and smoke coming from Popo, and, given our very close proximity to it, I wondered more than once if my "last will and testament" was in good order! Certainly, we discussed an evacuation plan of our own, but luckily never had to use it. The spacecraft which have been seen - and videotaped from a distance - are of two types:
(1) A large, triangular craft with a light at each apex and a red light in the center, very similar to those seen in Russia and Belgium: These are 300 - 800 feet in diameter, and appear at night, usually fairly late, in the areas adjacent to the volcanoes.
(2) The second type is a silver disc, probably 20 - 30 feet in diameter, seen at night and during the day time. Multiple daylight videotapes of these exist.
In the coming days we were fortunate to see and interact with both of these types of ETS. One the night of January 31, 1993, we set up the research site in a large field off of a road which connected two small villages. This site was on a high plateau of 7,000 ft. elevation, at he vary base of MT. Popo. In the moonlight you could see Popo and Izzy looming directly above us, at once beautiful and menacing, with steam rising from the gaping opening at the summit.
After checking the various equipment - still cameras, video camera, micro cassette recorders, radar detector, high powered lights, audio tones etc. -, we reviewed the team roles and prepared for the night's research. In the event of a landing and opportunity to board a craft, the Boarding Party order was reviewed; Communicators, who would attempt to communicate with Extraterrestrials, were assigned roles; and Jeff Baker preferred to attempt to document any CE-5 which may occur. having evaluated the site and made preparations we began the CE-5 Initiative protocols. No ETS were seen, but as we were leaving the site, well after 1 or 2 AM, the radar detector started signaling at full impulse. There were no microwave or radar sources, no cars on the road and no source for energy to activate the detector. The first night: Light. The second night: Sound. The third night: ?
DAY THREE - Monday, February 1st, 1993
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main purpose of the CSETI project is to develop teams of humans capable of establishing mutual, sustainable, peaceful and diplomatic relationships with any and all E.T. civilizations visiting earth. Extensive training together is required for the team to attain the level of unity and congruence needed to realize this goal. This project, and the CSETI team, is without known precedent; it is a unique attempt to establish the foundations of open interplanetary relations.
The bonding among the members which is required to create such a coherent and highly functional team occurs by planning, working, exploring and living together during the research project. On this day, Monday, February 1st, we undertook an arduous expedition which deepened the unity of the team, and created the energy and potential for the extraordinary beauty of that same night.
Setting out on foot, we traveled over primitive trails through the Mexican countryside to a pyramid-shaped mountain noted for it's proximity to the epicenter of many sightings. The five of us set out on foot for the 10-12 mile journey to this remote and enchanting spot. Using a compass and a few good hunches, we picked our way along the unmarked route, which was passable only on foot or by donkey. Arriving at the base of the pyramid-shaped mountain, Jeff Baker volunteered to scale the slopes with me while the others rested down below. What Jeff and I thought was a straight climb up turned out to be a series of ridges and valleys which led to the final steep climb up. En route, we passed several ancient native ruins, and we could sense the rhythms of a long-vanished civilization teeming around us. From the summit we observed the heart of the wilderness of the volcanic zone and could clearly see the entire region, which was being frequented by some E.T. civilization.
After returning to the group, we all departed for the long trek back. The day was growing late and we were pressed to get out of the wilderness before nightfall. On the way back we passed through a certain field in which, on the way up, we had sensed a strange presence---like someone or something unusual had been there, or was perhaps still there. On this pass through the field, we again remarked on the unusual feeling of the place, and as we looked up we saw a large cloud, high in the zenith, which looked exactly like an eagle with feathery wings outstretched and head pointing to our research site! It was a magical moment, and we felt it gave promise to the coming night's efforts at contact.
The eagle, which is an important symbol in ancient Mayan teachings, shared the blue sky with the moon. As I looked into the sky, and over the terrain, I knew that it was THIS sky, and THIS moon, in that enchanted land which was seen exactly one week before in the dream. It was then that I knew an event of great significance awaited us.
For in the one mind, beyond space and beyond time, the end can be seen in the beginning.
This night we set up the research site in the same field at 9:30, and again went through our check list of procedures and equipment. The camcorder, a Canon LI Pro with 30-60x magnification and a 5 Lux was set up, and through it you could see the moon and the volcano clearly. It and the other cameras were in fine working order, and so we began our contact protocols.
On the previous night, local villagers had been up very late, noisily celebrating a religious festival; I was a bit unsure of the security of the site. On this night, the area was quiet by 11:00 or so, and we settled into our research protocols, undisturbed and without incident.
Then, at 11:45 pm, a CE-5 of profound significance occurred. The entire group was performing CTS, and I was in a state aware only of "one mind". Suddenly, I sensed---knew---to sit up and look to my right, and there it was: a large amber craft moving obliquely away from us in the northwest sky.
My immediate sense was that it was looking for us, that it was over the area of the pyramid-shaped mountain and the field of the eagle cloud. I immediately notified the team saying: "This is it - this is the real thing!" With both CTS and powerful lights, we signaled for the spacecraft to come over to our location. IMMEDIATELY, it turned off it's present course, and moved directly towards us.
Initially, the spacecraft was 2-5 miles away, but as it silently glided towards us it came within 1500-3000 feet, and only 200-500 feet in the air! We immediately realized the historic significance of this event: a team of humans had consciously and intentionally vectored a spacecraft into a research area. It was clearly responding by changing course and coming directly to us, now in an apparent landing approach, or at least landing approach simulation.
By now the exact shape of the ETS could be seen: it was a huge 300-900 foot diameter triangular-shaped structured craft, with a light on the underside at each apex and a reddish glowing light in the very center on the underside. This was no vague distant light in the sky, but a large craft with technological lights. We noted that even though the wind was coming from it's direction, no sound was heard whatsoever!
The excitement, if not astonishment, of the team was obvious, and yet all performed beautifully in the coming moments.
Jeff ____ moved the video camera to the adjacent field, and set out our portable landing strobe lights - indicating to the E.T..'s that we welcomed a landing, should this be safe and feasible for them.
The rest of the team prepared for boarding and I sent signals with the high-powered light. The spacecraft made a sweeping arc, approximately 180 degrees, and then came straight towards us in an apparent landing approach. As I signaled to it, it returned by illuminating large and powerful lights on the now "front" Antero - grade of the triangular craft.
It descended to 200-300 feet, coming straight towards us, and as it did so, it greatly increased the luminosity of the front lights, as if signaling to land. We could also see a small "scout ship", red- orange in color, floating alongside and behind the large triangle.
As Jeff ____ activated the high-powered camcorder, he noticed that no image was coming through. The camera, which had worked perfectly before the event, was now non-operational. Even his hand and flashlight in front of the camera lens were not visible in the viewfinder!
Moreover, the still cameras (Canon EOS system with 70-210 lens), would not operate, nor would Shari Adamiak's little instamatic! It was clear to us that some interference prohibited the filming of this very close range event. WAS THIS INTENTIONAL JAMMING of the equipment or an inadvertent electromagnetic effect of the ship itself?
About the time Jeff tried to film the spacecraft, it aborted it's landing approach, turned to our left (east-northeast), and began moving away from the site. However, in a beautiful gesture of continued communication, the receding spacecraft illuminated it's retrograde lights and clearly, unequivocally signaled with us as we flashed our lights to it. It was a lovely and poignant "good-bye."
In one to three minutes, it dipped below a nearby ridge, and was not seen again at close range that night. The entire event had lasted about ten minutes, and we all felt that we had been "tested" to see how we would perform in a landing simulation. I believe we passed the test. There was great joy and excitement in the team, and we knew we had just witnessed the most significant group CE-5 in history.
After the spacecraft left, we were astonished, perhaps dismayed, to see that the powerful Canon LI Pro Camcorder was fully operational again! We have in our archives the immediate post-event footage, showing distant village lights and clearly recording our excited voices as we discussed the close encounter, then only minutes old.
But as a team---and as an organization attempting mutual, diplomatic contact with ETI, we were left with some hard questions, and a dilemma:
Why did the cameras fail just at that moment, when they worked fine before AND after the event? Was this an inadvertent side-effect of their energy and propulsion systems on our electronics at very close range, or was it evidence of deliberate "jamming" of the equipment, with the message, "NO, not now, not at this close range with a high magnification camera. We do not want to be documented for the world at close range yet, and if we were, it may endanger our mission, and your (CSETI) mission as well....."?
Were we "breaching diplomatic protocol" by unilaterally attempting to film the event at close range?
Our policy is to document fully SO LONG AS THE PROCESS OF DOCUMENTING DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH THE CONTACT-EVENT ITSELF. Had we crossed the line and shortened the event by trying to document it? These and many other questions occupied our thoughts, and continue to be a source of policy discussion within CSETI to this day.
Later that night, at 12:20 a.m., we saw three small red, white and blue-lighted craft which moved into a vertical configuration, one stacked upon the other. Shari Adamiak and I saw a beam of light descend from the craft, vertically down to the distant ridge over which they were hovering. Then at 2:15 a.m., another small craft was seen moving towards the west. It descended behind the pyramid mountain, to which we had hiked earlier that day. Then, after the moon set behind the volcano, we noticed in the sky another strange cloud formation. This time it was not an eagle, but a humanoid face: a strangely shaped ring of clouds made a head, and two bright stars made two eyes, staring from deep space across the Mexican volcanoes. This day, one week from the night of the strange dream, showed us that dreams do come true.
DAY FOUR - Tuesday, February 2nd, 1993
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a day of exploring the region for other suitable sites, we prepared once again for another night of research. Earlier that day, in the morning, we had held a debriefing and consultation on the previous nights' historic CE-5. It was a beautiful and transcendent event, and the memory of it, while still fresh seemed almost dream-like, or like it had been in a movie. Five people in a field, vectoring in a massive triangular spacecraft one to three football fields in size, signaling to it, preparing for it to land, signaling good-bye to it.....
During this debriefing, we discussed many issues, including the camera failure and simultaneous departure of the ETS. But a real-time recording of my comments that morning revealed personal concerns about the security of the site, concerns which, as you will see, were somewhat prescient. Here's a quote from the transcript of the actual tape: Steven Greer: "Number one, ..I think there are other considerations---again THEIR security. They are on a mission here and they have certain security requirements. And Number two, the location where we are doing this. There's a road that connects two towns that goes along right adjacent to the field. There are people up at that hour. We don't know who has guns and who doesn't... So it's not a totally secured site... I'm quite sure they (the E.T..'s) had concerns about the site."
That night, February 2nd, we set out for the field in a steady, cold rain. We remained in the cars with the rear of the cars backed up to each other. Both the rain and the previous night's experience with the cameras convinced us to leave the cameras packed. Then, at 9:36 p.m. an ETS was seen again, directly over the pyramid mountain - right at the apex of the pyramid where Jeff and I had been standing the day before. Barbie Taylor and I saw it clearly through the binoculars. It was amber-colored, moving to the west towards Mount Popo under a cloud ceiling of about 12,000 feet.
Then, at around 10:30 p.m., I sensed danger to the west of the field. We saw someone with a light, acting as if he was imitating our overhead light work. Suddenly, a powerful gunshot blast echoed through the area and I remotely viewed, but could not physically see, a figure headed our way across the field. Sensing a serious danger to the team, I asked that we all evacuate the area, with lights off, and rendezvous on the paved road. The team responded immediately and left without incident. Jeff later confirmed that he saw a figure coming across the field, and was half-way to us when I gave the order to leave.
It appears the concerns expressed that morning about the security of our site were well-founded! In retrospect, we were thankful for the rain, because it forced us to stay in the cars and packed up.
Some of the members of the team were fairly shaken-up by this event, but after about 30-45 minutes of debriefing, we settled into a new site directly adjacent to the road. Then, at 11:45 p.m., the exact same time as the previous night's CE-5, we saw the same huge triangular spacecraft floating silently along the ridge just to our northeast. This time it was only 100-200 feet in the air, and we could see two of the three apex lights, and the central red light underneath the structure. Then, as I said, "Do CTS, and get the light out to signal to it ", it instantly illuminated massive lights which dramatically filled the humid air in front of the craft! Was this, too, a coincidence, or had they heard my voice, or even detected the thought form?
At this point it moved below our level on the other side of the ridge, and we never saw it emerge from that area again.
DAY FIVE - Wednesday, February 3, 1993
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This was our last full day in Mexico, and we took much of the day to relax and reflect on the momentous events of the previous 48 hours.
We found another site near some old ruins, and arrived at 9:20 p.m. As soon as we arrived on site, as we were getting out of our cars, we saw a brightly-lit craft, again over by the pyramid mountain. Through binoculars, it appeared to be the triangular craft. It was moving from the east-southeast to west-southwest position. When I flashed to it, it emitted a very large beam of light in response.
At 9:40 p.m., we saw another ETS, silently moving towards the pass below Popo and Izzy. Towards the end of the sighting, it began to emit a bright strobing light, very similar to the craft videotaped by some villagers earlier. We noted that we had a sighting last night at 9:36 p.m., about the same time.
Suddenly, at 10:35 p.m., we saw two disc-shaped craft floating by in tandem, with rotating colored lights apparent. Joe Burkes signaled to them, and one flashed back in response. This sighting lasted seven minutes, and the craft moved from east to west, over the pyramid mountain. Again, they were silent.
Then at 11:40 p.m., we again saw the familiar triangular craft, some distance away, again near the pyramid-shaped mountain, moving eastward. While signaling to it, the craft became much brighter for a brief period then dimmed back down, moving behind a ridge directly to our north-northeast.
We left this site at 2:00 a.m. to, as Shari Adamiak stated, "get some good rest for our long drive tomorrow, and having to deal with the shake-down factor in Mexico City." How True.!
Before leaving Day Five, I should note that Joe Burkes, Barbie Taylor and Jeff Baker had visited a village near our research site earlier in the day. While at a local restaurant they saw a daylight flying disc, at fairly close range, for a few seconds before it disappeared into a cloud. Dr. Burkes saw rectangular porthole-like structures and estimated it at 20-30 feet in diameter, approximately one-half mile away.
As it turned out, this brief sighting was a prelude to three more daylight discs which would "buzz" our team during our final 24 hours in Mexico.
DAY SIX - Thursday, February 4th, 1993
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is almost unbelievable what has happened in just a few days. What might be achieved if we could send a team down, to an even more remote and secure site, for two or three weeks? With some reluctance, (and with some dread concerning what might await us back in Mexico City), we left our village and got on a toll road outside Pueblo.
At 10:40 a.m., directly ahead of us in a crystal blue sky, Barbie Taylor and I saw a brilliant silver disc. It hovered briefly in front of us, then streaked off to the east.....and disappeared.
To our astonishment, five minutes later another one - or the same one returning - did the same thing! As it hovered in front of us, we got the distinct impression that this was a send-off, a good-bye of some sort. But it was not the final good-bye......
For as Shari and I sat on our Delta flight and taxied out onto the Mexico City runway, yet another silver disc appeared, hovering briefly, and then was lost behind a billboard. It was time to go home.....
Post Scriptum
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In about one year, the CSETI team has had a massive triangular spacecraft hover in a cloud overhead in Belgium (January 1992); has been greeted by 4 ETS outside Pensacola Florida - signaling with them for 10-15 minutes; has witnessed a CSETI-conceived and projected design appear in a field as a crop circle in July 1992; has witnessed the near landing of a 100 foot diameter ET craft which signaled with us in a field at Alton Barnes, England (July 27, 1992); and now has made contact on multiple occasions in the volcanic zone of Mexico City.
What the coming months and years will bring can only be discerned in part. But of this we are certain: we have begun a journey which will take us to the stars and back, and which will change the world as we know it.
We invite all those who are sincerely interested in a peaceful, international approach to extraterrestrial contact and relations to join us.

Introduction
A number of UFO cases contain reference to apparently related physical symptoms regarding the eyes and skin. This article attempts to relate known information about similar physical reactions from the medical literature to the UFO effects.
While specific cases are referenced in this document, the collection of the relevant information about possible physical effect sources in one place is also an important objective of this paper.
The following is a sample of the cases which motivate this study:
3/15/65, James Flynn, Everglades, FL, 1AM; "a cone shaped UFO hovering about 200' over some cypress trees... moved rapidly and changed positions... the cone-shaped object appeared to be about 25' high and had four tiers of windows emitting a yellowish glow... a noise like a diesel generator... within 200 yards of the UFO, Flynn jumped out of the swamp buggy... the UFO emitted a jet-like noise and a blast of wind that knocked him off balance; as he continued to approach within a few yards, the UFO emitted a beam like a welder's torch and Flynn blacked out... Extensive physical trace evidence was found, including an area of burnt sawgrass 72 feet in diameter... 'I felt a blow like a sledgehammer'... when he awoke... his vision was seriously impaired. About 24 hours had passed.... [he] required medical treatment, and had a small dark spot on his forehead. He suffered impaired vision in one eye, numbness, and loss of hearing." The effects lasted for over a week.[1]
4/66 - Robert Howard, Sinclairville NY 8:30PM Sunday; "saucer-shaped object 12 feet in diameter with flashing red lights set in its edge. It settled into a nearby swamp. Howard headed across the fields toward the object while more people gathered. The thing appeared to be beaming a very narrow stream of brilliant light into a nearby woods. As Howard neared it, he said it bobbed to the right and took off over the treetops... Right eye was puffy, bloodshot and watery". The effects lasted for days.[2]
10/3/73 - Eddie Webb, driving in Southwest Missouri, evening; "saw a luminous object in his rear view mirror. He put his head out the window of his truck and looked back. There was a bright white flash... one lens had fallen from his glasses and the frames were melted...fortunately, the damage was not permanent."[3]
10/12/63 - Eugenio Douglas, between Monte Maiz and Isla Verde, Argentina, evening; "a single blinding light... Douglas could now see a circular metallic craft, about 35 ft high... three figures appeared... over 12 feet tall... a ray of red light flashed to the spot where he stood and burned him... the burning red light followed him as far as the village, where it interfered with the street lights, turning them violet and green. Douglas could smell a pungent gas... the same time they [Ribas family] heard Douglas' call the candles in the room and the electric lights in the house turned green and the same strange smell was noticed...the burns on his face and hands were clearly seen... Douglas was examined by a doctor, who stated the burns had been caused by a radiation similar to ultraviolet"[4]
11/23/76 - Shelley McLenaghan, Bolton, England, 5:15PM; "a weird red and green light... the size of a small house, flat on top, with sloping sides and three legs... ' a terrible pressure on my head and shoulders, an off taste in my mouth. My teeth seemed to vibrate... a purple rash covered her neck, chest, shoulders, and upper back. Her eyes and joints ached. In her mouth, her top fillings had come out and the bottom ones had crumbled"[5]
Sept - Nov 1977 on... numerous (35) witnesses to "chupas" - refrigerator sized rectangular objects emitting light beams in Brazil experienced damage to their skin after being struck with light beams, and were examined by a medical doctor: "...began with intense reddening of skin in the affected area. Later the hair would fall out and the skin would turn black. There was no pain, only a slight warmth. One also noticed small puncture marks on the skin... decrease in red blood cells". Some deaths were reported to result from these injuries.[6]
As with all UFO cases, these reports come from every nation and demographic category. They are not restricted to any recent time period, but span at least 40 years.
The Pattern
As evidenced by the above reports, there are a number of specific effects which have been documented regarding UFO effects on eyes and skin. The following are the salient aspects of the pattern:
- The absence of irritation in some close encounter cases and the presence of irritation in others (may be a reporting artifact, a distance effect, or indications of the varying nature of emissions by the object).
- Irritation generally absent in beams (especially blue and white) and present in general exposure to nearby UFOs.
- Irritation in the presence of both red and blue light.
- General absence of irritation in CE-IV cases.
- The presence of shaped effects on the skin.
- The recurrence of shaped effects on the skin at delayed intervals.
- The presence of irritation in non-exposed skin areas.

Cases Without Effects
The following cases of close encounters and light ray incidents have no reported symptoms. This may be due to the absence of the symptoms, or it may simply be a report defect.
- 10/11/54 - anonymous 3 men, Taupignac, France, 7:30PM - brief blindness, but no irritation effects despite proximity and brightness.
- 10/30/67 - A. R. Spargo, Boyup Brook, W. Australia: 30 ft diameter mushroom shaped iridescent blue lit object 100 ft above ground, witness directly exposed to 2-3 ft diameter light beam (color unknown), 40º angle for 5 mins. EM effects (car stopped).[7]
- 10/11/66 - Police Sgt Ben Thompson, Wanaque, NJ; "The thing was so bright that it blinded me so bad I couldn't find my car... It was all white, like looking into a bulb and trying to see the socket, which you can't do."[8]
- 10/21/54 - Anonymous man and 4yr old child, Pouzou, France, 9:30 PM; "the engine died and the lights went off. They were blinded by a strong red light which turned orange. It came from an object hovering above the road"[9]
Observations On The Cases
- The data on proximity is poor. However, there does not appear to be a clear proximity effect.
- UV is commonly held to be the cause of burns received by witnesses. However, the frequent association of burns and red light either indicates the predominant presence of UV with visible red rather than violet or indicates that IR is the source of the burns in red light cases (however, the general absence of sensations of heat would tend to discount this explanation).
- The data seems to support the possibility of several and sometimes multiple causes of skin and eye irritation effects, including IR, UV, allergic reaction, toxic reaction, and harder radiation.
- Of the possible causes, UV allows for the measurement of the energy output of the object given a known distance, and a minimal sunburn condition; assuming all injury to be minimal sunburn, and making some distance assumptions (unfortunately, such data does not seem available for IR).
- Allergic and toxic reactions allow for the possibility of detection of substances emitted by UFOs. Investigators need to be sensitized to this possibility so that they can arrange for blood work to identify toxins or antigens.
- Cases with sunburn and no eyeburn and vice versa are puzzling. More work on the relative sensitvity of the eyes and skin, and any possible mitigating factors needs to be done.
- At least one case indicates a radiation capable of creating burns and penetrating clothes. This would seem to be a radiation other than UV. Information about burns from trans UV radiation (i.e. soft X-rays?) is needed to see if they match this profile. Also, information on ultrasound, which was raised as a possible cause in the 1950s by Fontes.
- Amber objects seem to provoke chemical or allergic reactions rather than those attributable to UV or other radiations (i.e. effects on non-exposed skin)
- Red objects provoke UV burn-type reactions.
- Blue beams seem to have no ill-effects.
Conclusion
The sample size and the quality of the data present are not sufficient for more than general observations. Specific estimates of the energy output of the UFO can be derived from UV effects if the distance to the object, the duration of the exposure, and severity of the symptoms are identified. Analysis of the chemical effects of UFOs on humans is a currently neglected area of study and investigators need to make arrangements for appropriately certified expert analysis of blood, clothing, and exposed surfaces / materials in incidents where the symptoms indicate the presence of allergens or toxic substances.
Medical Analysis Of Eye Symptoms
It is sometimes reported that UFO witnesses and abductees have experienced physical symptoms of reddened eyes, itching, and, occasionally, discharge.
There are a number of possible causes for this. Most often, it is thought that this condition results from UV or harder radiation, especially since it is sometimes reported in conjunction with skin irritations similar to sunburn.
There are several types of conjunctivitis which match the reported symptoms. Allergic conjunctivitis, for instance:[10]
- red eye(s)
- large dilated vessels in the sclera (the tough white fibrous tissue that covers the so-called white of the eye)
- intense itching -- burning eyes
- tearing
- puffy eyelids, especially in the morning
defined as:
"... a reaction to the introduction of materials to which the person is allergic, such as pollen, dander, and so on. The reaction results in the release of histamine with subsequent dilatation of vessels in the conjunctiva. Reddening of the eyes develops quickly and is accompanied by itching and tearing."
There is a specific onset and reduction of symptoms:
"Acute Conjunctivitis Key Diagnostic Points: 1.The onset of the diseases is acute. There is subjective itching with photophobia, stabbing pain, lacrimation, the sensation of a foreign body in the eye,and burning sensations. 2.In the early and mild case, it's marked by slight swelling of the eyelid, severe congestion of the palpebral conjunctiva and the fornix (inside of eyelids) and( BR) mild congestion of the bulbar conjunctiva (thin protective coating over sclera). Additionally, there can be a sticky secretion. 3.Features of a severe case include palpebral redness and swelling, obvious congestion of bulbar conjunctiva possibly accompanied with petechial haemorrhages andincrease of mucus secretions at the inner canthus. 4.Usually,conjunctivitis will reach its climax in 3 to 4 days, and then it will be relieved and recover in about 10 to 14 days. 5.This is a kind of acute infectious opthalmopathy due to bacterial or viral infection. It's mainly characterized by an highly infectious condition and obvious conjunctival congestion."[11]
Chemical Sources of Eye and Skin Irritation
Sources of eye irritation include chemicals - for instance:
"In a case where 2% aqueous glutaraldehyde was accidentally splashed in the eye, irritation, pain and an increased sensitivity to light resulted. 74. Murray and Ruddy, Southern Med. J., vol. 78, p. 1012, 1985.74"[12]
This same substance can cause irritation when present in the air:
"In NIOSH HETA reports, eye irritation occurred in hospital workers exposed to atmospheric glutaraldehyde concentrations up to 0.5 ppm v/v, 66. National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Health Hazard Evaluation Report no. HETA 86-226-1769, US Dept. of Health &Human Services, Public Health Service, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, January 1987.66, 68."[13]
Ozone is also known to cause eye irritation in certain quantities. It is an interesting candidate substance in that ozone is a byproduct of electrical discharge, and there is evidence of significant electromagnetic phenomena (atmospheric ionization, radio / television / ignition interference) in the vicinity of UFOs.
Ozone has a distinctive smell:
"The characteristic smell of ozone associated with lightning discharges has been known psyche antiquity, as has been shown by Mohr in citing four examples in Homer Iliad and Odyssey. Homer called it "sulphur smell". Ozone was first described correctly in 1786 by van Marum. He found a characteristic smell when a breakdown of electrical sparks took place within a closed volume above water and he attributed this smell to the electrical matter."[14]
Knowledgeable readers will recognise similarity to the frequently reported irritating smell in the area around a UFO.
Unfortunately, specific data about eye problems from ozone seem to be lacking.
One reference states:
"Ozone, like many other oxidants, irritates the mucous membranes of the respiratory system, causing coughing, nausea, shortness of breath, pulmonary congestion, and impaired lung function. It aggravates chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma and bronchitis, and can cause serious health problems for people in weakened health and the elderly (see Introduction). Peroxyacetyl nitrates (PAN) and other oxidants that accompany ozone are powerful eye irritants. Exposure for 6-7 hours or more reduces lung function significantly in healthy people during periods of even moderate exercise."[15]
Even common materials can cause eye irritation, as shown in the following table[16]:
| Dust | Skin flakes, soil, pet components, carpet fibers | Eye irritation, allergies, eye-ear-nose-throat infections, asthma attacks, fatigue |
| Bacteria | Heating and cooling systems, house pets, garbage, bathrooms | Colds, respiratory infections, eye infections... |
| Benzene | Paint, new carpets, new drapes, upholstery... | Headaches, eye and skin irritation, fatigue, cancer |
| Ammonia | Tobacco smoke, cleaning supplies | Eye and skin irritation, headaches, nose-bleeds, sinus problems |
| Chloroform | Paint, new drapes, upholstery, new carpeting | Headaches, asthma attacks, dizziness, eye irritation, skin irritation |
| Formaldehyde | Tobacco smoke, plywood, cabinets, furniture, particle board, office dividers, new carpets, new drapes, wallpaper, panelling | Headaches, eye and skin irritation, drowsiness, fatigue, respiritory problems, memory loss, depression, gynecological problems, cancer |
| Benzopyrene | Tobacco smoke | Asthma attacks, eye and skin irritation, sinus problems, lung cancer |
| Trichlorethylene | Paints, glues, furniture, wallpaper | Headaches, eye/skin irritation, respiratory irritation |
Formaldehyde is a possible suspect in some cases due to the occasional report of an "enbalming fluid" odor:
"The chemical "formaldehyde" is a colorless, pungent gas at room temperature with an approximate odor threshold of about 1 ppm [Ex.73-120].
"The principal effect of low concentrations of formaldehyde observed in humans is irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes. A wide range of concentrations of airborne formaldehyde have been reported to cause specific human health effects. Table VII-3 shows the variability and overlap of responses among subjects. Some persons develop tolerance to olfactory, ocular, or upper respiratory tract irritation. Such factors as smoking habits, socio-economic status, pre-existing disease, various host factors, and interactions with other pollutants and aerosols are expected to modify these responses.
"Eye: Human eyes are very sensitive to formaldehyde, responding to atmospheric concentrations of 0.01 ppm in some cases (when mixed with other pollutants) and producing a sensation of irritation at 0.05-0.5 ppm. Lacrimation is produced at 20 ppm, but damage is prevented by closing of the eyes in response to discomfort.
"Olfactory System: The odor threshold of formaldehyde is usually around 1 ppm, but may be as low as 0.05 ppm in some people."
And:
"Skin contact with formaldehyde has been reported to cause a variety of cutaneous problems in humans, including irritation, allergic contact dermatitis, and urticaria. Allergic contact dermatitis from formaldehyde is relatively common, and formaldehyde is one of the more frequent causes of this condition both in the United States and in other areas.
"In another attempt to estimate the susceptible population (particularly in relation to eye, nose, and throat sensitivity) , information on a small number of healthy young adults exposed to formaldehyde at various concentrations for short periods was considered. 59 At 1.5-3.0 ppm, more than 30% of the subjects tested reported mild to moderate eye, nose, and throat irritation symptoms, and 10-20% had strong reactions. When test subjects were exposed at 0.5-1.5 ppm, slight or mild eye, nose, and throat irritation was noted in more than 30%, but 10-20% still had more marked reactions. Approximately 20% of the subjects had slight ear, nose, and throat irritation in response to formaldehyde at 0.25-0.5 ppm. Finally, at the lowest concentration tested, less than 0.25 ppm, some exposed subjects ("less than 20 percent") still reported minimal to slight eye, nose, and throat discomfort. These data might be interpreted as suggesting that there are subjects perhaps 10-20% of those tested, who react to formaldehyde at any given concentration.
"We may get further information from mobile-home surveys from which environmental and clinical data are available. Irritation symptoms were reported by 30-50% of subjects when formaldehyde concentration was greater than 0.5 ppm. When the concentration was less than 0.5 ppm, irritation symptoms were reported in fewer than 30% of subjects. Finally. in a more controlled study in which irritation symptoms were investigated, mild irritation responses (doubling of blinking rate) occurred in 11% of subjects tested at 0.5 ppm."
"In summary, fewer than 20% but perhaps more than 10% of the general population may be susceptible to formaldehyde and may react acutely at any concentration, particularly if it is greater than 1.5 ppm. People report mild ENT discomfort and other symptoms at less than 0.5 ppm, with some noting symptoms at concentrations below 0.25 ppm. Low-concentration formaldehyde exposures may produce eye, nose, and throat symptoms and possibly lower-airway complaints. In some susceptible persons, an "allergic" reaction to formaldehyde may occur at very low concentrations , causing bronchoconstriction and asthmatic symptoms. This particular type of reaction to formaldehyde appears to be uncommon; its prevalence cannot now be estimated."[17]
Mercury has some side effects which can lead to its being mistaken for radiation effects:
" Mercury is a general sensory irritant. It may produce skin burns, rash, excessive perspiration, easy blushing, partial loss of scalp hair,or a decrease in hearing. It can affect taste, and it produces irritation in the mouth. Mercury poisoning may affect the sense of touch, owing to the swelling of all extremities, including ears and nose.Except for spills of inorganic mercury and excessive use of mercury-based paint, it is debatable whether indoor concentrations of mercury are ever high enough to produce those effects."[18]
Organic substances can have an effect:
"Primary skin irritants include polycyclic organic matter and other vapor-phase organic pollutants... Vapor-phase organic pollutants (like formaldehyde) may produce a variety of skin effects. They may produce eczematous contact dermatitis and dermal contact sensitivity. They may be absorbed percutaneously because of solubility in the water-lipid system, they may produce skin paresthesis, and they may produce eczematous reactions of an acute or chronic nature, including eruptions and exacerbations."[19]
Electromagnetic Spectrum Radiation Causes of Eye And Skin Irritation
Of course, UV radiation can also affect eyes.
"One particularly excruciating result of acute overexposure of the eyes is keratoconjunctivitis[20], or snow blindness. Snow blindness is essentially a sunburn on the surface of the eye (i.e. the cornea and conjunctiva). Symptoms include redness of the eyes and a gritty feeling, which progresses to pain and an inability to tolerate any kind of light. The pain has been compared to rubbing sandpaper across one's eyes. Fortunately, snow blindness is usually only temporary."[21]
UV also can reduce immune system ability to respond to infection:
"Similarly, another study showed that after human subjects had undergone twelve 30-minute exposures to artificial UVR in a commercial tanning bed, the functions of T cells and Natural Killer cells (which play a role in fighting viral infections and are cytotoxic to some tumor cells) were negatively affected."[22]
Onset is well-defined:
"Occur 8-12 hours after exposure...Eyes feel dry and irritated, then feel as if they are full of sand, moving or blinking becomes extremely painful, exposure to light hurts the eyes, eyelids may swell, eye redness, and excessive tearing".[23]
And recovery can be prolonged:
" Recovery may take two or three days. Snowblindness is not a permanent condition."[24]
The following indicates the types of damage based on wavelength:
"The initial response of the eye to exposure to UV-B radiation (280-315 nm) is the condition termed photokeratitis in which the front of the eye, the eyelids and the skin surrounding the eyes become reddened. This condition is commonly seen in skiers and also is called snowblindness. Unlike the skin, the eye does not develop a tolerance to UV but becomes more sensitive with repeated exposures. At wavelengths below 290 nm, damage is principally to corneal epithelium. Between 290 and 315 nm, the corneal stroma and endothelium begin to show damage as well. Doses as low as 0.21 J c[-2] of 308 nm radiation (from a laser) could initiate damage to the cornea; 0.6 J c[-2] at 300 nm produced demonstrable damage in the stroma and endothelium which was not fully repaired eight days post-exposure. Other data indicated that damage from UV radiation at these wavelengths is cumulative and additive among wavelengths [Pitts, 1989]."[25]
Upper limits would be based on retinal damage (which has not been reported):
"UV reaching the retina causes both functional and morphological damage. Lenses that have been removed (aphakic), such as after a cataract operation, provide clear evidence of this occurrence. The threshold for damage to the rabbit eye at 300 nm was 0.23 J [-2], A similar value (0.36 J [-2]) was found for the primate eye at 325 nm (not UV-B); the aphakic threshold was about ten times lower. More research is needed to determine how these findings might apply to retinal damage in exposed human populations."[26]
UV is a natural suspect for skin irritation in UFO witnesses, especially since witnesses frequently are affected at a distance.
"Unlike a thermal burn, sunburn is not immediately apparent. By the time the skin starts to become painful and red the damage has been done. The pain is worst between 6 and 48 hours after sun exposure. In severe sunburns, blistering of the skin may occur. Edema of the skin, especially in the legs, is common. Toxins are released with sunburn and fever is not uncommon. Skin peeling usually begins between 3 and 8 days after exposure."[27]
There are detectable chemical effects:
"The major photoproducts following the absorption of UVR by DNA are pyrimidine derivatives (Errera 1952). These photoproducts are cyclobutyl-type dimers (commonly called 'pyrimidine dimers' and by far the most significant), pyrimidine adducts, so-called 'spore photoproducts', pyrimidine hydrates and DNA-protein crosslinks (Patrick and Rahn 1976)."[28]
Some quantitative information is available on UV skin damage causing sunburn:
"MED is defined as the "minimum erythema dose" of energy required to produce clearly marginated sunburn in the sun-exposed area of the skin [Parrish et al. 1983]. In humans, 1 MED is approximately equivalent to 200 J [-2] of UV radiation at 297 nm." [29]
Given the inverse-square fall-off of energy intensity, and the time of exposure, sunburn cases offer a particularly specific method of determining the energy output of the UFO in a specific frequency range.
The development of sunburn is:
"5.1.1.1. Time course of sunburn. Half an hour of midday summer sunshine in the UK on the unacclimatized skin of Caucasian subjects is normally sufficient to result in a subsequent mild reddening of the skin. Following this degree of exposure erythema may not appear for about 4 h, although measurements using an instrument more sensitive than the eye at detecting erythema showed that vasodilatation begins to occur much sooner (Diffey and Oakley 1987). The erythema reaches a maximum at about 8-12 h after exposure and fades within 1 to 2 days (Olson et al 1966, Farr et al 1988). Exposing the skin for increasing periods to strong summer sunshine progressively shortens the time before the appearance of erythema, lengthens its persistence, and increases its intensity. High doses may result in oedema, pain, blistering and, after a few days, peeling.
"5.1.1.2. Action spectrum for ultraviolet erythema. The effectiveness of UVR of different wavelengths in producing erythema has been determined repeatedly in a number of studies over the past 70 years (Diffey 1982). The technique is to determine the doses of UVR at a series of wavelengths necessary to produce a minimally perceptible redness 8 or 24 h after irradiation. This dose is termed the 'minimal erythema dose' or MED. The reciprocal of the MED is plotted against wavelength and the curve normalized to unity at the most effective wavelength. The MED at a given wavelength in a group of fair-skinned subjects are distributed lognormally. Studies in 254 normal subjects in the North East of England gave the median MED at 300 nm to be 34 mJ cm[-2] with a 95% confidence interval of 14-84 mJ cm[-2] (Diffey and Farr 1989).
"Although the action spectra determined by various workers have shown differences, particularly in the spectral region 250-300 nm, there is good agreement that at wavelengths greater than 300 nm the effectiveness drops very rapidly, falling to an efficiency at 320 nm of about 1% of that at 300 nm. Recent studies (Parrish et al 1982, Gange et al 1986) have extended determination of the erythema action spectrum up to 400 nm and have shown that the erythemal effectiveness of UVR decreases with increasing wavelength through the ultraviolet spectrum, although the rate of change of effectiveness is much less from 330 to 400 nm, than from 300 to 330 nm.
"A large number of published erythema action spectra were subject to statistical analysis and combined to produce the reference action spectrum (McKinlay and Diffey 1987) shown in figure 7...
"5.1.1.3. Factors influencing the development of sunburn. Skin colour is an important factor in determining the ease with which the skin will sunburn. Whereas fair-skinned people require only about 15-30 min of midday summer sunshine to induce an erythremal reaction, people with moderately pigmented skin may require 1-2 h exposure and those with darkly pigmented skin (i.e. Negroes) will not normally sunburn. Other phenotype characteristics that may influence the susceptibility to sunburn are hair colour, eye colour and freckles (Azizi et al 1988, Andreassi et al 1987). Based on a personal history of response to 45-60 min of exposure to midday summer sun in early June (Fitzpatrick 1975), individuals can be grouped into six sun-reactive skin types (table 7).
"There are anatomical differences in erythemal sensitivity. The face, neck and trunk are two to four times more sensitive than the limbs (Olson et al 1966). These anatomical differences are compounded by the variations in solar exposure on different parts of the body table 8). Vertical surfaces of an upright person receive about one half of the ambient UVR, whereas horizontal surfaces, such as the epaulet region of the shoulder, receive up to 75%.
"There is no difference in sunburn susceptibility between sexes, although erythemal sensitivity may change with age in that young children and elderly people are said to be more sensitive (Hawk and Parish 1982). However, recent studies of erythemal sensitivity in children and elderly subjects have not confirmed this (Cox et al 1990).
"Heat, humidity and wind have been shown to alter the erythemal sensitivity of mice exposed to artificial UVB radiation, but the significance of these atmospheric conditions upon the induction of sunburn in humans has not been clearly identified...
"5.1.1.4. Sunburn and epidermal hyperplasia. In addition to erythema and tanning (section 5.1.2), thickening (hyperplasia) of the epidermis is a significant component of a mild sunburn reaction. A single moderate exposure to UVB can result in up to a three-fold thickening of the stratum corneum within one to three weeks, and multiple exposures every one to two days for up to seven weeks will thicken the stratum corneum by about three- to five-fold (Miescher 1930). Skin thickness returns to normal about one to two months after ceasing irradiation."[30]
The possibility of Infrared (IR) burns is raised in the Army FIELD MANUAL PREVENTION AND MEDICAL MANAGEMENT OF LASER INJURIES:
"d. The Support System. The eyelids are the most relevant parts of this system; they may limit the laser injury to 0.15 seconds, the duration of the blink reflex. The eyelids themselves may be burned by high energy infrared laser irradiation together with surrounding skin and the cornea...
" (1) Ultraviolet and low energy far-infrared radiation can injure the epithelial layer of the cornea; a condition that is painful and visually handicapping. At lower powers, this injury is primarily due to a photochemical reaction. A latency period of hours may exist between the time of exposure and the development of the corneal pathology. Minimal corneal lesions heal within a few days, but meanwhile they produce a decrement in visual performance...
"c. Skin Burns. The threshold for skin burns is similar to that of the cornea for ultraviolet and far-infrared wavelengths. For visible and near-infrared wavelengths, the skin's threshold is much higher than that for the retina, since there is no focusing power as will occur in the eye. However, minimal lesion to the cornea is much more debilitating than a minimal skin burn.
"The main symptom of laser injury is reduction in visual acuity; another symptom may be pain. Medical personnel should suspect laser exposure when soldiers report seeing bright flashes of light; experiencing eye discomfort and poor vision; and feeling unexplained heat. Obvious lesions such as corneal burns, retinal injury and haemorrhage, and skin burns make the diagnosis more certain. Conceivably, one may confuse the use of invisible lasers with chemical agents which also irritate the eyes and skin (see FM8-285 for signs and symptoms of chemical agent injuries). Spontaneous fires and unexplained damage to optical instruments are additional evidence that laser devices/weapons are being employed."[31]
From the viewpoint of selecting between UV and IR lasers as a cause[32]:
| Symptoms(Reported by patient) | Signs(Findings on examination) | Diagnosis(and likely laser aetiology) | Treatment and management |
| Reduction in vision. Pain in eye, eyes tender. Red or warm face or skin. | White or hazy cornea.Conjunctival inflamation.Facial or skin erythema. | Mid-moderate corneal and/or skin burn.(Infrared laser, intermediate dose.) | If eye perforation is not suspected, apply topical antibiotics(ointment). Patch. Systemic antibiotics and pain medication. Needs physician/PA evaluation. Evacuate as appropriate. |
| Profound loss of vision.Severe pain in eyes. Burning sensation of face or skin. | Corneal ulceration or loss of corneal tissue.Perforation of globe. Skin burn. | Severe corneal and/or skin burn.(Infrared laser, high dose.) |
IR-A lasers range between 700 and 3900 Angstroms. IR-C lasers range between 5,000 and 10,600 Angstroms. UV lasers range between 325 and 350 Angstroms (UV-A).
Note also that the various chemicals and allergy provoking substances which cause eye irritation commonly cause skin irritation as well.

Full Report
A completely baffling case involving nine witnesses took place on April 22, 1966, in Beverly, Mass. This dramatic close encounter is regarded as being among the most persuasive arguments for the extraterrestrial hypothesis, and it is almost certainly the most solidly unidentifiable report from Massachusetts in recent decades.
The events of that evening began to unfold shortly after 9:00 p.m.. Nancy Modugno, age 11, was laying in bed when she noticed a bright light blinking through her window. She looked out and saw, only forty feet away, an amazing object about the size of an automobile, brightly lit with flashing blue, green, red and white lights. The football-shaped craft made a whizzing, ricocheting sound as it moved over the neighborhood at a very low altitude, just clearing the tops of the houses. As she watched, the thing descended and could be seen behind trees, apparently landing in a large field behind Beverly High School.
Terrified, the astonished girl ran down the stairs and tried to tell her father about what she had seen. He tried to calm her down and went about adjusting the television set, which had mysteriously just lost its picture. Nancy's mother, Claire, was visiting two friends, Barbara Smith and Brenda Maria, in an adjoining apartment at the time. Nancy's father ordered her back to bed, but she became hysterical and refused to leave. At this point, Barbara and Brenda walked in to order a pizza. Seeing Nancy in a fit, the two women attempted to ease her fears and calm her down. They could see the flashing lights in the field, and told Nancy that they would walk over there to prove that it was just a plane.
Barbara and Brenda picked up Claire Modugno and walked down a hill to the field. The three women looked up and saw something they could not have anticipated. There were three objects maneuvering in the sky, halting and circling as if they were playing tag. They were oval-shaped, with bright flashing lights. Two were distant, but one was much closer, apparently right over the school.
The women crossed the field to get a better look. They could see flashing lights on the edge of the craft changing colors from red to green and blue. Brenda waved her arms at the object and it immediately stopped circling and moved across the field towards the women. They were horrified. In her statement, Barbara said that, "It started to come towards us... I started to run. Brenda called, 'Look up! It is directly over us!' I looked up and saw a round object...like the bottom of a plate. It was solid, grayish white... I felt this thing was going to come down on top of me. It was like a giant mushroom." Out of sheer terror, Barbara and Claire turned and ran up the hill. Brenda was all alone in the field, with the thing only 20 feet above her head. She stated, "The object appeared larger and larger as it came closer. The lights appeared to be all around and turning. The colors were very bright. When overhead, all I could see was a blurry atmosphere and brightly lit-up lights flashing slowly around... I thought it might crash on my head!" The others called to her, then she too turned and fled. One of the witnesses was so petrified by the encounter that she literally wet her pants.
While the women ran back to the apartments, the object smoothly moved over the school building. They got on the telephone to alert their neighbors to the spectacle unfolding outside. One woman was already in her yard, watching the flying saucers. And one man, upon looking outside and seeing the discs, called the police.
The police arrived to find a small crowd of people standing outside watching the closest object moving up and down above the school. Jokingly, Officers Bossie and Mahan asked the group, "Where's the airplane?" When the witnesses pointed to the thing, then at high altitude and looking like a star, the officers laughed. Then, suddenly, the disc turned bright red and dropped to a position directly over the school building. At this point, the officers became visibly shaken. Mahan stated, "I observed what seem to be a large plate hovering over the school. It had three lights - red, green, and blue - but no noise... This object hovered... The lights were flashing..." Bossie said, "It hovered and then began gliding. Some of the people got on the ground and were real scared!" They jumped back into the cruiser and drove toward the object, down into the schoolyard. They could see clearly that it was not an airplane or helicopter and that it was shaped like a half dollar, with three lights, red, green & blue, in indentations at the rear of the disc - similar to back-up lights.
Just as the policemen got out of the cruiser, the disc made a couple of passes over the school and began to move slowly away. It picked up speed and was last seen as it disappeared behind buildings. By this time, the two other UFOs had also disappeared, though nobody had seen them leave.
Raymond E. Fowler investigated this case thoroughly for the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). He also sent a copy of his report to the Condon Committee, a group studying UFOs for the U.S. Air Force. The people on that committee who were objectively trying to find the truth about UFOs used the Beverly Case as evidence for the reality of the phenomenon. Other members tried to explain the sighting as a misinterpretation of stars or the planet Jupiter. However, a detailed follow-up analysis by Fowler based on witness interviews showed that the line of sight from the witnesses to Jupiter's position and the line of sight to the approximate location of the object differed by about 50 degrees. When the Condon Committee released its final report, the Beverly Sighting was the only case which made specific reference to an alien vehicle. It said, "While the current cases investigated did not yield impressive residual evidence, even in the narrative content, to support a hypothesis that an alien vehicle was physically present, narratives of past events, such as the 1966 incident at Beverly, Mass., would fit no other explanation if the testimony of the witnesses is taken at full face value."

ed-30th Anniversary of Emilcin Abduction

May 10, 2008, marks the 30th anniversary of one of the most amazing close encounters that ever took place in Poland as well as in history of encounters with UFO beings.
On that day a simple farmer from Emilcin village in Lublin area met with extraordinary humanoids that then took him onto their craft. The anniversary is also an remarkable occasion to pay a tribute to primary investigators of the case as well as his main protagonist, the late Mr. Wolski. 30 years after the incident it still remains actual with all the questions still opened to debate.
Although it may seem that all the possible steps in this case were done, we would like to present an unique relation of Mr. Wolski who in his own words speaks about the most strange incident in his whole life that made this modest man famous in the whole country and undoubtedly changed his life.
Jan Wolski died in 1990. His story became very popular and was often covered, for example in a book “Zdarzenie w Emilcinie” (“Incident in Emilcin”) of late Zbigniew Blania-Bolnar who researched this case and contained the results and his opinions in the aforementioned book. The Emilcin incident was also deeply researched by late Kazimierz Bzwoski and others.
WOLSKI’S ENCOUNTER BEGAN
History of Jan Wolski began when he drove his horse cart in early hours on May 10th 1978. At some moment he was approached by two short, green-faced humanoid entities dressed in one-part suits. The beings soon jumped on Wolski’s cart talking amongst themselves in strange language. When the cart with Wolski and two passengers neared to a forest clearing, the man saw an strange aerial object hovering in the air. Soon he was taken onboard… It is worth to say that the unidentified object passengers left some tracks on the ground while the strange craft was seen by other inhabitants of the Emilcin – the village that still holds one of the most intriguing riddles of UFO cases in Poland.
Photograph-A journalist of “Kurier Warszawski” talking to Wolski in 1981

The rest of his story with all the details is contained in the interview performed with him by Mr. Henryk Pomorski, who met with Wolski two months after his close encounter.
THE INTERVIEW
NPN received this unique material from Mrs. Sylwia Weremczuk – a granddaughter of the interview author, Mr. Henryk Pomorski. The conversation with Jan Wolski was recorded in Emilcin in July 1978 – two months after the close encounter when Wolski’s memories were still very vivid. Mr. Henryk Pomorski along with Krystyna Adamczyk began questioning the abductee who in his own simple language described them his extraordinary history that took place on the 10th day of May. Tape with the interview for long time remained in private archive.
TRANSCRIPT OF AN INTERVIEW WITH MR. JAN WOLSKI
by: Henryk Pomorski & Krystyna Adamczyk
HP: ... Opole Lubelskie Commune. We talk to Mr. Jan Wolski, age...
JW: 71 [seventy one]
HP: Who has for us lots of interesting things to say… You met some extraterrestrial people. Can you say us how did it happen?
JW: I cannot directly state for sure that they were extraterrestrials because they were similar to us thought tiny, delicate, of small height - about 150 cm. [5 f.]
HP: How did it happened that you met them?
JW: Well… I was driving from Komaszyce, from that side. In fact I was returning from Dabrowa village but the encounter with them occurred on this side of Komaszyce, on a field belonging to me.
HP: When did you see them for the first time?
JW: I noticed them as two people heading toward my cart... Those people [the beings] hadn't noticed me before. When they saw me they began looking at me and then they gradually began slowing down their walk more and more. When I drove closer to them, they divided on both sides (one went in one direction and the second one on the opposite one) and I drove in between them while they in the meantime jumped onto the moving cart.
HP: They sat next to you, didn’t they?
JW: Yes… However, not directly next to me but behind me (the second one also) while I was sitting in the center. Their legs were hanging down. [Mr. Wolski neither didn’t scorn them nor escaped since similar mode of traveling was some kind of tradition and it would be a discourtesy to drive them off and. Moreover, he didn’t know then who they were in fact.]
HP: Can you describe their outer appearance?
JW: They looked in this way: black outfits covering their foreheads and from here to here and to chin, and here they were green.
HP: What about their faces?
JW: They had green faces and palms as well, from here. It was in this way.
HP: In which language they spoke? Did they say anything to you?
Photograph-Place of the beings encounter in 2007

JW: They spoke in some language (huh) but I’m amazed that they could understand each other since they spoke like that “…a petete petete te…”. Their words were short and fast and I don’t know how they can understand one another. [The beings were communicating with Mr. Wolski by gestures, both while they were with him on the ground and onboard their aerial craft. It is contrary to many reports about UFO passengers reports where witnesses said about some type of mental communication.]
HP: What about the further journey? What happened next?
JW: They were driving ahead for some time and then ordered me to stop – they didn’t spoke in words but expressed it with hands to stop. So I understood it and began urging the horse to stop but he [one of the beings] caught the reins and pulled back urging the horse to stop (It was afraid of the craft.). And when it stopped they got off the cart – in the same way as they previously got on and they gave me a sign with hands to go with them. I tied my horse, then got off and went after them toward that machine. There was a tiny elevator of some kind for two people to hold – maybe it couldn’t carry two large people but surely could delicate ones… And then he went forth and set his foot onto this craft, I followed him and it soon lifted up rapidly – in front of that craft door. And the whole craft could be about 4 m. above the ground, maybe 4.5 m. [ca: 13 – 15 f.]
HP: The craft was hovering in the air, wasn’t it? Please, describe the way it moved and how looked like?
JW: It was a purely white craft – from outside.
HP: And what about it’s size and shape?
JW: It could be 4.5 maybe to 5 m. [14 – 15 f.] in height and it was as long as a bus, so it looked in that way. I haven’t seen any… [unclear but the craft was void of any outer features as lights, joints etc.] [Jan Wolski on other occasion mentioned that there were 4 “barrels” on the craft corners with “drills” (as Wolski said). Those black drill-like objects seemed to be made of black material and were rotating around its axis with great speed although without creating any disturbances in the air. They generate the hum Wolski mentioned.]
HP: And it was hovering in the air, wasn’t it? When you stand on the platform along with him the tiny elevator brought you swiftly to the interior of the craft…?
JW: No, no, no… (It carried us to place) by the craft entrance… [Not inside.] The elevator was on the same height as the entrance to the craft… Not from the bottom but by side.
HP: You found himself inside… What could you see there?
JW: Inside I could see only several crows – those our black birds…
HP: Black ones, as our ravens or rooks…
JW: So they were lying under the wall, not that one with the entrance but on the opposite side. To my opinion they seemed to be paralyzed – they were moving with their wings, legs and heads but weren’t moving around.
HP: Ok... You have encountered two beings [on the ground]. Were there any other inside?
JW: Inside of the craft there were also two ones. When we got onboard, there were another two inside.
HP: Were there any other appliances onboard? Maybe some gauges or some other things for sleeping or sitting…

Photograph-Depiction of Alien Craft
Jan Wolski by the UFO craft (image from Z. Blania-Bolnar book “Z archiwum X. Akta ufologiczne”). There are various representations of the craft seen by Wolski concerning the four poles on the corners
JW: There were only some benches onboard… From 8 to 10 - I couldn’t remember. Benches of some kind for one man to sit.
HP: What then happened with you?
JW: They ordered me to dress down…
HP: By gesticulation?
JW: Yes, they showed me to dress down. When I was half-naked, to my waist – and maybe not fully because when I was undressing I removed my jacket, then a blouse with 4 buttons… And when I began to undo two upper ones, the being that was on the elevator with me undid the two ones from the bottom. When I was undressing the fourth being appeared – that one who remained on the ground. […] Well, when I was partially undressed (to my waist) and stood in place I received an order to undress completely. So I took off my shoes. One of the present beings then appeared in front of me with an appliance in a form of two dishes combined in its hand. He neared “the saucers” to my front, then revolved me holding my arm slightly. Then he raised my arm up and began to doing something at my side with those plates… then from behind and on the other side. Then he showed me to dress up. After this order I began to dress up and look around but there were neither windows nor lights visible.
HP: Maybe they had some food products with them?
JW: I couldn’t see anything. [Break]. (They have something that might be food) in form of icicles. They were crumbling it into small chips and insert them into their mouth. He pointed with his finger on the thing in an icicle shape and ask me – not by words but gesticulating – could I eat it.
HP: They wanted to treat you with it…
JW: Yes, they wanted to treat me with it. But it was somewhat strange for me and I showed with my head move that I wouldn’t eat that thing.
HP: They ordered you to dress up after scanning you… What was the color inside of the craft: white, green, black… ?
JW: It seemed black inside. It was in the same color as their outfits – black although with some grayish tint.
HP: Can you describe the outer appearance of the craft?
JW: It was transparently white, as polished aluminum.
HP: You have said that the beings wore black outfits and had greenish faces. What with their eyes and other face features?
JW: They had slightly slanted eyes… They cheekbones were protruding. Once I saw Chinese men and they [the beings] slightly reminded them. But Chinese seemed to more massive and taller… Then he showed me to dress up so I did it and I was about to went off the craft as the being said. When I was about to do it, I turned back and took my cap off saying to them: “Goodbye”. All of them took a bow. Then I took a step ahead and found myself on the ground. And that’s all. [Jan Wolski also used to term the beings as “monsters”.]
HP: What about the altitude the craft was hovering?
JW: Approximately 5 m. [16 f.], maybe 4 or 4.5 m. I’m not sure. It was hard to establish it then…
HP: You then rushed to home and told your family members and neighbors to go there to inspect it…
Photograph-Jan Wolski’s house in 2007

JW: Yes, it’s true. When I arrived home I quickly entered inside but my son’s weren’t there, only my wife… I asked her: “Where are the boys?”. She replied that they are somewhere outside. I quickly ran off the house. My wife asked: “What happened?” I replied: “Nothing”. “Maybe something is wrong with the mare?” – she asked.
Then I ran outside and saw my sons coming from the barn side. I called them saying: “Go quickly on the field and you will see some craft in the air”. I even described it as a “car” in the air, something out of ordinary.
So they ran to alarm one and another neighbor and then together rushed toward the field. My third son appeared afterwards and I said to him: “You also should go and see it”. After a while I joined to them because of curiosity. But when I arrived at the spot along with my sons there were nothing in the air – only grass trodden down covered with dew and paths coming in all directions… When I saw that it disappeared I turned back and returned home. The rest remained at the site checking the footprints etc. Soon two other men joined them. They were inspecting the prints, saw some foot… [As it turned out, the area was full of strange footprints.
There were also clues indicating that soil samples might be taken. The footprints were nearly rectangular in shape although soon they were trodden down by local inhabitants and law enforcement officers.]
HP: Were those prints left by people of the craft visible?
JW: Yes, they were. Boys checked them out and one of them compared the footprint of the being to his feet… I don’t know whether it was smaller or bigger (than his feet).
HP: Because of this very interesting event you surely have many visitors that want to get to know about the case. I’ve heard that you had been visited by our scientist, Mr. Blania from Lodz, an ufologist. What is his opinion in this matter?
JW: He thinks, after all of my descriptions and all of the incident, after answers to questions about the craft whirring, hum…
HP: But the craft wasn’t whirring as a car engine for example?
JW: No, but it was a rumble of some kind. Something like: “…zzzzz…”. I answered him [Mr. Blania] and I don’t know who said them that some kid from the village also could hear some noise, a loud hum. So they went to Popiolek family, since he was a son of Popiolek. He [boy Adam Popiolek] said to Mr. Blania that he saw some craft in the air, some balloon (he explained) or car – according to his descriptions.
He ran into the house and yelled to his mother: “Mummy, come here because it could destroy our house because there is a craft in the air”. The woman went outside but returned after a while to his cooking duties and she hasn’t seen the craft.
HP: What is the boy’s name?
JW: Popiolek. [Adam was about 5-year-old in time of incident. After some time it turned out that many other inhabitants of Emilcin witnessed the sighting of UFO object but they didn’t want to talk about it. Many also remembered hearing loud bagns.]
HP: He’s is from here? He lives in Emilcin?
JW: Yes.
HP: The craft inside was dark or enlightened? There were no windows in its hull?
JW: No, there were no windows. The light was coming inside only by the door of the craft since it was in the daylight.
HP: What about the door?
JW: The door weren’t closing as ours but were rolling as some piece of cloth, in that way. Krystyna Adamczyk: Is any other face features of the being were visible, as brows, teeth?
JW: There were no brows visible… I don’t know what they had in fact – some make up or masks. They only got slanted eyes. I could see some white in their eye corners. And their teeth were also white in color… That’s all about them. KA: Have you witnessed the craft disappearance while your retreat from that place?
JW: I haven’t seen anything. I could only observe the craft only in a distance of 15 m. because it then hid behind some bushes. I was in hurry to reach home and inform my sons about the incident… That’s all about it… KA: Can you describe the process when you was treated with the icicle-form food? Were there any sounds when they began to crush it into smaller pieces?
JW: There were no crushing sounds. This food was crushing as hardened dough, without any sounds. KA: Was it a terrifying experience or something of utmost importance for you?
JW: Just a bit [terrifying], but I’m not very timorous man at all… so I wasn’t very scared. KA: Who they were according to your opinion? Who those people are? Are they of terrestrial or of extraterrestrial origin?
JW: I can’t say anything about it and I’m not orientated in similar matters since I’m not a scientist of some kind but a simple farmer. Therefore, I don’t know. I noticed that they were small, of the same height and all of them rather snappy in nature. But I don’t know anything about their origin. KA: You have mentioned that they were in some costumes and have greenish faces. Were there any other specific details making they different from us?
JW: I noticed then one thing, i.e. around the each one finger there was a thin and tiny fin [he means webbed hands ]. But I don’t know the number of their fingers since I didn’t count, just saw them. And on their upper necks, in place where hair began, they have something resembling lumps. It was round and protruding but I don’t know about it’s nature – whether it was a anatomical part of them or they had something hidden them. KA: Did you notice any brews or hair covering their bodies?
JW: I didn’t notice any hair since their whole body was covered with the suit that also obscured part of their foreheads. But they had no brows I think… They were completely dressed in it – the same one-pieced suit covered their legs and heads. They had no shoes. KA: Can you say us finally when the incident took place?
JW: It was on 10th day of May, before 8 a.m., because when I returned and my wife looked at the clock it was about 7:50 a.m. KA: The day it occurred was…
JW: 10th May [wondering]… It was in Wednesday…
HP: We recorded this conversation with Mr. Jan Wolski from Emilcin on July the 6th 1978. With Mr. Wolski talked: Henryk Pomorski and Krystyna Adamczyk. Thank you Mr. Wolski and see you soon!
JW: You welcome!
HP: Goodbye!
JW: Goodbye!
WOLSKI LEGACY
Everyone who is acknowledged with Jan Wolski case may say that the man had no reasons to create such a story that also for him remained a life-long riddle. Today, after 30 years of this incident we still have many questions concerning the Wolski’s story that became for him both burden and blessing. Of course there were many attempts to debunk Wolski’s story, blaming him for confusing a helicopter and its occupants with UFO craft. The Emilcin case isn’t limited to his story since there are many other clues concerning various mysterious events.
One of the most intriguing occurred in the place of landing in 1981. It was reported by aforementioned K. Bzowski. A group of TV workers preparing a broadcast for TVP2 station perform there an experiment with a pendulum. A group of people gathered in a circle and soon the experiment began. Unexpectedly the pendulum (along with 60 cm long string) disappeared in thin air what was witnessed by more than 10 people. They began looking for the object in the ground but they failed. The incident is still without answer.
For Wolski himself, his growing popularity became a serious problem:
“Do you know what people then talked about me? They called me an alcoholic or said that it was a mere dream! The worst although were the trips that began coming here. Sometimes there were up to 14 coaches with tourist at once. They harassed me and didn’t let to work. And trampled my meadow…”
It is therefore worth to commemorate the Jan Wolski and the researchers involved in this case that is now often covered and misinterpreted by some UFO organizations that in fact has no inkling about its importance, making cheap show in place, where a man who didn’t seek attention, met with great mystery.
Listening his voice relating in simple words a story that for many people seems completely out-of-ordinary allows us to draw in our minds a scenario that backed with words of modest man transform in a vivid and real remembrance of events from 1978.

Witnesses to UFOs report many different shapes and sizes. From discs to cigars to triangles and almost anything you could imagine. Despite the varied shapes and sizes, researchers have tried to organize these sightings into neat little boxes.
In reality, this can't be done. However, there have been two systems developed which are as close as we can get to categorizing sighting reports. One is these is the Jacques Vallee system, which is quite extensive. The other is the Dr. J. Allen Hynek system, which is by far the most widely used, and from which the term, "close encounters" was coined.
According to Dr. Hynek:
This is the traditional method of describing an event as a distant or close encounter of the first, second or third kind. The investigator should be aware that, unless the case report can reasonably rule out natural and man-made sources, the HYNEK rationale declares it to be a non-case, and so no value is given.
DE-1 - Nocturnal Light
DE-2 - Daylight Disc
DE-3 - Radar-visual
CE-1 - Light/object in Proximity
CE-2 - Physical Trace
CE-3 - Occupant
UFO reports differ in many details. But there are a number of similarities that recur in such features as shape, maneuverability, appearance, disappearance, sound and color. There are several basic observational categories into which sighting reports may be classified.
A. Relatively Distant Sightings
1. Nocturnal Lights. These are sightings of well-defined lights in the night sky whose appearance and/or motion are not explainable in terms of conventional light sources. The lights appear most often as red, blue, orange or white. They form the largest group of UFO reports.
2. Daylight Discs. Daytime sightings are generally of oval or disc- shaped, metallic-appearing objects. They can appear high in the sky or close to the ground, and they are often reported to hover. They can seem to disappear with astounding speed.
3. Radar-Visual cases. Of special significance are unidentified "blips" on radar screens that coincide with and confirm simultaneous visual sightings by the same or other witnesses. These cases are infrequent.
B. Relatively Close Sightings (within 200 yards)
1. Close Encounters of the First Kind (CE-I). Though the witness observes a UFO nearby, there appears to be no interaction with either the witness or the environment.
2. Close Encounters of the Second Kind (CE-II). These encounters include details of interaction between the UFO and the environment which may vary from interference with car ignition systems and electronic gear to imprints or burns on the ground and physical effects on plants, animals and humans.
3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (CE-III). In this category, occupants of a UFO - entities that are human-like ("humanoid") or not humanlike in appearance - have been reported. There is usually no direct contact or communication with the witness. However, in recent years, reports of incidents involving very close contact - even detainment of witnesses - have increased.
4. Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind (CE-IV). This category has only recently been created, and is one step beyond Hynek's "Third Kind." This category deals with alien abduction, and/or direct communication with an alien being.
The Kinds of Evidence
In addition to eyewitness reports, scientific evidence for the presence of something very unusual falls in these categories:
1. Physical Traces. Compressed and dehydrated vegetation, broken tree branches, and imprints in the ground have all been reported. Sometimes a soil sample taken from an area where a UFO had been seen close to the ground will be determined, through laboratory analysis, to have undergone heating or other chemical changes not true of control sample.
2. Medical Records. Medical verification of burns, eye inflammations, temporary blindness, and other physiological effects attributed to encounters with UFOs - even the healing of previous conditions - can also constitute evidence, especially when no other cause for the effect can be determined by the medical examiner.
3. Radarscope Photos. A tape of traces from a radar screen on which a "blip" of a UFO is appearing is a powerful adjunct to a visual sighting, because it can be studied at leisure instead of during the heat of the moment of the actual sighting.
4. Photographs. While it might seem that photographs would be the best evidence for UFOs, this has not been the case. Hoaxes can be exposed very easily. But even those photos that pass the test of instrumented analysis and/or computer enhancement often show nothing more than an object of unknown nature, usually some distance from the camera, and very often out of focus.
For proper analysis of a photo, the negative must be available and the photographer, witnesses and circumstances must be known. In a few exceptional cases, photos do exist that have been thoroughly examined and appear to show a structured craft.

Full Report
----------------------------------------------------
In 1992, Dr. Steven Greer, director of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI) and a team of researchers had an encounter with three craft forming an equilateral triangle in the night sky in response to the team's flashing and signaling of lights at Gulf Breeze, Florida. That summer in Alton Barnes, England, Dr. Greer and several members of the CSETI Rapid Mobilization Investigative Team (RMIT) witnessed a spectacular maneuver of a large circular ship from close range after spending most of the night in a rain-soaked field. In February of 1993, five members of CSETI, while in Mexico, saw a large triangular ship move within several hundred yards of them in a close hover and near landing, interacting with the team for over twenty minutes.
It is the assessment of CSETI, an international organization dedicated to establishing a worldwide, peaceful, citizens' diplomatic initiative with the people of our universe, that the overwhelming documented evidence and experience of its members suggests that the Earth is being visited by people of other worlds and it is time for the people of Earth to welcome them; not fear them, shoot at them or deny their existence. CSETI has more than twenty working groups worldwide engaging in ongoing field work to establish contact with ETI.
CSETI documents it's activities to help educate the people of Earth on the status of its mission. With this philosophy, CSETI allowed a crew from CBS's 48 Hours "news show" to accompany an RMIT, March 20, 1994 to show its audience CSETI, doing real-time research in an area of known UFO/ET activity at Mount Popocatepetl in central Mexico. Obviously CSETI could not guarantee to CBS that it would encounter ET spacecraft, but the hope CSETI had was that a significant event would occur, and an American network would come out of denial on this topic and report to its viewers the events as it saw them. CBS promised in return for accompanying CSETI on this mission, all raw film footage taken on this trip, as well as a copy of the 48 Hours program, shown April 21, to each member of the RMIT. As of June 15, CBS has not complied with its written agreement, and refuses to send any raw footage. Rather than let the 48 Hours presentation be "The Word" on the event in Mexico, I as a member of the CSETI RMIT am writing about the story that 48 Hours missed.
I received notice of the RMIT just one week before the event from Shari Adamiak, the CSETI RMIT coordinator. I flew to Mexico City March 19, meeting investigative team members Dr. Steven Greer, Shari Adamiak and Marty Keller. The 48 Hours crew consisting of a two-man camera crew, Russell and Percy, the assistant producer Claudia Douglas, and the reporter Harold Dow, met us in Mexico City.
On Sunday morning the two teams headed for Metepec, a small town at the foothills of Mount Popocatepetl, a simmering volcano that threatens Mexico City itself. The drive of over 100 miles took us around the volcano, through the city of Puebla and the town of Atlixco, to a lovely government run facility where we stayed in Metepec. This was the area a small team of five people, including Dr. Greer and Ms. Adamiak, experienced the 1993 contact with the triangle ship. Would we once again encounter such a craft, and interact with the people aboard it? Would they allow themselves to be filmed by a major network film crew? It didn't take long for us to find the answer.
The very first night, after finding a suitable viewing and landing site, we had an astounding event. We saw an amber light coming from our left, moving slowly to the West toward Mt. Popocatepetl. Marty signaled the nearby film crew to capture this event as Steve started signaling the craft with a high powered light and Shari and I watched the object through binoculars. I saw several white lights and a flashing red light. As it moved closer to our position, I could see that the white lights formed the corners of a triangle with a red light in the center. Then for us a most significant event occurred. All its lights went out, then one light flashed us brilliantly responding to our signaling. It flashed a second time and a third, with what we counted as six unequivocal flashes. A close encounter of the fifth kind (CE-5), which is a human initiated encounter with an Extraterrestrial Craft and its occupants, filmed by a US news crew who, containing their own excitement, captured the event with their high tech starlight camera. This event occurred at 11:45 p.m. When I had returned home, I reread the article in Unicus by Dr. Joe Burkes stating that the 1993 close encounter with a large triangular craft occurred at 11:45 p.m. Was this a coincidence, or was it their way of saying "Welcome back"?
The following day, Claudia and Harold Dow finally arrived, saying that they had to wait in Puebla for a day, because their rental car broke down. We wondered why they didn't catch a taxi from Puebla, since it was only about twenty miles away. We decided to spend the early afternoon at one of the restaurants in Atlimayaya, a small, rustic, friendly town at the foot of the volcano. While Harold Dow was interviewing Steven about CSETI, I had the opportunity to talk, with the help of an interpreter, to Antonio Lopez, one of the owners of this restaurant. Antonio told me that on the previous Friday at 8:00 p.m., feeling that a craft was nearby, he had led several customers to the rooftop of his restaurant to witness a bright, egg-shaped object fly over the valley, hover near the church steeple, fly to the other side of the valley and hover near the church in the next town. Mr. Lopez, the mayor of Atlimayaya, said that 90% of the people in his town have seen these craft over the past few years. He felt that they were not from earth. I asked him if he was afraid of them. He said that they have been in the area for years and no one has been harmed.
Tuesday evening we set up on a hill closer to the route of the ship we had seen the previous night. This night with Harold Dow I was part of the boarding party, prepared if the opportunity were to arise to have face-to-face contact with people from these ships. We were there not to see lights in the sky or view a spacecraft, but to meet the people of the crafts that have been flying over this area. After 11:30 p.m. we saw a craft similar to what we had seen the previous night. This time we were closer to its flight path. It first appeared to us as an amber light coming from our left. Through binoculars I could see that it had several white lights plus a red, pulsing light. After traversing some distance, it pivoted and reversed direction. It was maybe a mile or two from us, close to the ground, again violating Mexico laws. Just before it went behind the ridge, it signaled us once with a brilliant flash in response to our light work. Two CE-5's. We were astounded, and very hopeful that maybe we would have another close encounter that week. We were pleased that this was all filmed on high quality film by a professional crew with the starlight camera. Harold Dow was so impressed by the current activity that he called CBS, suggesting that they keep the camera crew with us the rest of the week. We cautioned him that although it was our assessment that these were actual CE-5 cases by extraterrestrial spacecraft, we were not close enough to the craft to see its structure, and we suggested that he have the film analyzed by experts of this type of phenomena to see if they could determine the structure of the craft. Harold wanted to film Steven interviewing local people about ovnis (UFOs). The previous Sunday we had commented about the clear daylight picture of a disk shaped craft on the cover of Mexico's OVNIS magazine. Harold decided to look around the restaurant to find someone who has had a sighting of a UFO. He found Dr. Antonio Rosas, a dentist from Atlixco, having lunch with his wife and two small children. Dr. Rosas was the person who took the photo that was on the cover of OVNIS magazine. Harold Dow was amazed at the coincidence of finding this person in a small restaurant on a Tuesday afternoon in a small town in Mexico. Dr. Rosas, truly a charming man, who fortunately for us could speak English, invited us and the entire crew to his house in Atlixco, ten miles from the restaurant. He not only had the wonderful copy of his photo, which he gave to us, but he also showed us the video that he took in 1991, of a triangular shaped craft, like the one we had seen the night before.
On the video, we could clearly see not only the 3 white lights in the shape of an equilateral triangle but also a light in the center. This video also shows the structure of the craft. Dr. Rosas gave us and 48-Hours a copy of his video. Why did 48-Hours refuse to tell about the confirmation of the previous nights' events? Why did they not show the high integrity and sincerity of the Mexican people who for this week told us their stories of the ovnis? This is the story that 48-Hours missed. It is the ongoing story of the wonderful people of Mexico and their willingness to share the tales of night and day sightings regularly occurring in their country. Why did they withhold this story from their viewers?
Wednesday night, we were on our own, as the 48-Hours crew traveled to Mexico City to interview Jaime Maussan, a journalist, who has gathered much video evidence of ovnis in Mexico. He has presented this evidence on his show, Mexico's 60 Minutes. In Mexico, even the government is open about the sightings of these spacecraft. However this day Mr. Maussan was not available due to the assassination of the prime presidential candidate in Mexico. We had a relatively quiet night on the prominent hill until Marty noticed two men burning weeds and bushes below us. We were not sure of the purpose of their activities and felt that the prudent choice was to quickly and quietly leave the site and get a good night's sleep.
Thursday night after scouting several potential sites, we returned to our initial site. We saw some unusual lights coming from the ground up the valley and determined that it must be the camera crew returning to find us. We vectored them to our location. At about midnight while Marty was talking with the camera crew, I heard a strange voice, seemingly trying to say something. I turned to look at Steve and he was looking at Shari saying "What was that?" We determined that the source of the sound was right behind Steve. It sounded much like a male voice, but no words made sense. This type of experience with sound has occurred with CSETI working groups and we take it as some form of contact. I soon layed back on this calm, peaceful night and fell asleep. At about 1:15 a.m. I was awakened from my snooze by a voice saying "One". I was laying flat on my back and synchronously saw a white, fast moving object streak through the zenith. At this time of night, the zenith is in the earth's shadow, therefore it was not a satellite. It covered the sky in about three seconds. No one else was able to track it, nor did anyone else hear "One". For me however it was a significant moment.
Friday was a breezy sunny day. The steam and sulfur clouds on the mountain peeks were blowing away from us, allowing us a clear view of the volcano's caldera. High Strangeness is a term J. Allen Hynek used to refer to unexplainable events associated with UFO sightings. These events may well have psychological as well as physical effects. But whatever the cause of these strange activities, they do happen. This day we could clearly see the 17,000 foot volcano, Mt. Ixtaccihuatl. Above the tree line, as clear as could be, was an imprint of commonly described form of an ETI. We recorded the form, I call the Guardian, on both video tape and still picture. We asked Paulino if he has ever seen this face before, and he was dumbfounded. He has never seen this before on the mountain. At about 16,000 feet this was the highest case of strangeness we have seen.
Marty had to leave our group Friday. We lost our translator. That evening our good friends from the restaurant, Paulino and Antonio, invited us to use their land. Shari found a wonderful spot, with a view of the valley where Antonio had a sighting the previous Friday, and a view of the rocky knoll that the neighboring landowner had a sighting three years earlier. That night people were celebrating at the church, shooting off fireworks. Antonio and Paulino, along with the restaurant's night watchman, who had been quite nervous about the OVNI presence in the area, joined us on the hill. Steve explained to them what we were doing and why we were doing it. When he finished I asked the watchman if he still feared the ETI. He stated in Spanish, "Not any more." That statement made the entire trip worthwhile for me. We all were finding the common ground.
Seeing activity at the knoll, we shined our light at it, getting unusual reflections. Steve grabbed me, and with the camera crew ran the quarter mile through brush to the foot of the knoll, spotting people with lights. They were either watching us or the fireworks. This is part of the process of real-time research. We are trying to make contact. We do not want to miss an opportunity that may arise. Therefore, when we see something interesting, we observe it more closely, monitoring it until it becomes obvious to all of us what it is. It is not who is right but what is true.
after this event we saw several people coming up the hill towards us. It was Dr. Rosas with several friends from Atlixco. Steve briefed them on what we do. They shared with us their stories of sightings of extraterrestrial spacecraft. One man talked about seeing a fleet of fast moving craft moving like a swarm of bees about Mount Popocatepetl, then dive at full speed into the volcano (I later met a woman who saw the same type of activity). Then right after 11:30 p.m. we had another interesting appearance of a craft from the left. Moving very slowly, low to the ground, the object went behind the very same lava knoll that was earlier occupied by several people (as shown on the 48 Hour broadcast). Watching the flying object through the binoculars, I could see the separation of a white and red light. We watched it go behind the knoll, come to a notch on the knoll's right, and patiently waited for the ship to appear on the right side of the notch. Then someone exclaimed "Look to the left." It had again pivoted, dipped sideways, showing its belly with 3 white lights in the shape of an equilateral triangle and a red light in the center and two red lights in the rear of the craft. It had the same signature as the video of Dr. Rosas. This event filmed by the 48 Hour crew, was verified the next day for us by the cameraman Russell.
Saturday, our final night, we returned to the same site near the restaurant. It was another beautiful night. We again were visited by the Paulino and Antonio Lopez, when to our surprise they were followed by other people. We were joined by about 50 people from Puebla. They came with tents, coffee and more stories about spacecraft they have seen. It was wonderful to feel that we had integrated in this activity with the local people. In a very real sense we were the aliens learning to communicate and participate with the Mexican people. Steve spoke to them in his "Spenglish" about the principals of CSETI and our vision of the future with the people of Earth fully integrated with the galactic community.
We are not alone, just all-one...

THE TERRORIST OF UFOLOGY STRIKE AGAIN!
by Anne Jablonicky
typed by Hyperdyne c/o X.A.C.T.
22/03/9.T.3
I have never dared to tell this story before.
First off, nobody would believe me, and second of all, how does one
go about coming to terms with a terror so unbelievably real that it
literally make the hair on your arm bristle, and your flesh crawl?
The "Men in Black" - or "MIB" for short - have had this ominously evil
effect on dozens of other level-headed individuals. But let me explain in
more detail for those not aware of the regin of terror that has gone on in
the UFO field, almost totally undetected for so many years.
There are it would seem, at leased two different distinct types of MIB
that we must contend with.
"Secret agents" posing as either Air Force or other authorized officials
have, from time to time, popped up in the annuals of ufology, prompting,
in the late 1960s, the Defense Deparment's Vice Chief of Staff, to issuse
a warning to all Branches of the service to be on the look out for
individuals impersonating Air Force officers.
"In one reported case," the memorandum signed by Rewitt T. Wheless, Lt,
General, USAF, notes, "an individual who represented himself as a member
of NORAD, demanded and received photos belonging to a private citizen. In
another, a person in an Air uniform approached local police and other
citizens who had sighted a UFO, assembled then in a school room and told
them that they did not see what they thought they saw and that they should
not talk to anyone about the sighting."
In other instances, the MIB do not impersonate government officials, but
arrive seemingly out of thin air dressed in sinister black garb, only to
frighten the literal daylights out of those who have experienced a UFO
sighting, undergone a close encounter with aliens, or somehow stumbled
upon "hard evidence" that offers additional proof that a particular case
is legitimate.
Often the MIB are said to be able to read the minds or control the
thoughts of those they set about to harass. They can also tap telephones
lines, invade a person's dreams, interrupt the flow of mail, cause
hallucinations, and, in general, reek utter havoc on the lives of those
they seek to intimidate. They have tried to run over witnesses, or have
driven them off the road, shot at those they are trying to "silence," and
even physically attacked certain individuals (if we are to believe the
more outlandish MIB stories that have spread throughout the field).
Even the noted astronomer and foremost researcher, the late Dr. J.
Allen Hynek, did not discount these bizarre stories that were reaching him
as head of the Center for UFO Studies. Hynek once noted in an interview:
"I have on occasion been told what seemed to be a straightforward story,
when suddenly the witness lapsed into a highly confidential mood and told
me that he was sure that his phone was being tapped or that he was being
watched, sometimes on a regular basis either by the government or by
occupants of the craft."
Frequently, the Men in Black arrive upon the scene in a sinister looking
vehicle - most often time a black Cadillac with elongated fins - which
very often is an older model that for all intents and purposes looks
remarkably shiny and new.
Few ufologists now doubt their existence. There are those researchers
who say the MIB are agents sent by an earthly power...such as the CIA, or
even the notorious Russian KGB. Others, upon close examination, rule out
such possibilities, insisting that because of their awkward appearance and
peculiar behavior, the MIB are somehow affiliated with the ETs themselves,
perhaps a sort of interplanetary Mafia that has been set up, and whose
primary purpose is to cover their trail in instances where a report is
likely to get too much attention, and the witnesses have to be SILENCED at
ALL cost!
THE MIB IN HISTORY
The terrorists of ufology have always been with us, their existence having
been well documented in reports the go back a hundred years or more. In
1864, for example, a UFO dropped several strange artifacts over a small
Texas community. The objects - of unknown origin - were picked up and
placed in a store window on the main street of town. The very next day a
"stranger" dressed in a long black coat visited the shop keeper and
offered a "high price" for the objects. But, because they did not belong
to him, the store owner said he did not have the right to sell the items.
That night the store mysteriously caught fire and when the ashes and
rubble were sifted through, none of the artifacts could be found. Nor was
the "stranger" ever seen again!
THE MODERN ERA
In more modern times researchers like John Keel, Timothy Green Beckley and
the late Gray Barker have done a credible job of documenting the
activities of the MIB. In his now classic work THEY KNEW TOO MUCH ABOUT
FLYING SAUCERS, Barker told the story of Allen K. Bender, director of the
now defunct International Flying Saucer Bureau, an organization that
flourished in the early 1950s.
During his investigation, Bender somehow stumbled upon the secret of
the saucers, how they were propelled, who flew in them, and where they
originated from. He wrote to one of his many correspondents about his
findings, but instead of getting a reply through the mail, he was visited
shortly thereafter by three men dressed in black. For several hours two
of the men drilled the researcher on the explanation for the UFO mystery.
while the third merely sat and carefully observed Bender. The story they
gave was "fantastic" and extremely frightening, Bender later said, and it
portended great changes in all field of human endeavor, particularly in
science. Before leaving, one of the MIB turned toward Bender and said,
"If we hear another word form your office you're in for BIG TROUBLE!"
According to published accounts (see MIB - ALIENS AMONG US by Beckley),
Bender made a telephone call to a friend in which he casually mentioned
his theory and subsequent visitation of the three men. Immediately after
hanging up, the phone rang. A voice uttered that he knew of Bender's
conversation and that he had made a "bad slip" and warned him to stop his
activities RIGHT AWAY!
The same day Bender suspended his organization's newsletter and refused
to talk about UFOs to his closest associates, his friends or even members
of his immediate family. He was convinced that if he gave away the
"secret" something very terrible would happen to him and those around him.
Other researchers have not been so lucky. One Australian ufologist was
pushed down a flight of stairs in a large deparment store by seemingly
invisible hands, since there was no one near him at the time of his fall.
In another episode which ended even more bleakly, two Army
investigators died when their military plane crashed. At the time of the
"accident" they were reportedly in the process of carrying a briefcase
which contained metal from a UFO that had exploded off the coast of
Tacoma, Washington. The incident in question included the appearance of
"secret agents," and even lead to an article in the TACOMA TIMES with the
intriguing headlines SABOTAGE HINTED IN CRASH OF ARMY BOMBER. The
reporter who wrote the story, Paul Lance, claimed that a mysterious
telephone informer had called his office and indicated that the plane had
been "sabotaged or shot down to prevent shipment of the flying disc
fragments" to Hamilton Field. "Lending sudstance to the caller's story,"
continued Lance's account, "is the fact that twelve hours before the Army
released official identification, he correctly identified the dead in the
crash...At McChord Field an intelligence officer confirmed the mystery
caller's report that the ill-fated craft had been carrying 'classified
material.'"
There have been other cases where UFO witnesses have been kidnapped
right off the street, taken to some windowless MIB headquarters while
blindfolded, sometimes drugged, and threatened with physical harm if they
continued to talk about their experience.
For just such a reason, Carrol Wayne Watts of Loco, Texas doesn't much
like to talk about his UFO experiences anymore after he went to the aid of
a motorist and was hit by a heavy object in the head while his back was
turned. Watts claimed that that a space craft had landed on his property
several times, that he had gone onboard the craft, met the object's
occupants, and taken photographs to validate his story. At first, he
freely talked to the press, but later refused to do so, after his house
was supposedly sprayed by machine-gun fire.
Some researchers even point to the untimley deaths of certain ufologist
as the possible work of the Men in Black. They see the reported
"suicides" of scientists like Dr. James McDonald and M.K. Jessup as being
related to the existence of the MIB. They point to their belief that
these men were on the verge of some important breakthrough when their
breath was snuffed out. Those more "careful" in their investigation of
such matters see these deaths as being unfortunate "coincidences."

Full Report

Drawing by the investigator, Martin Jasek, based on the witness' account
There have been many close encounters with UFOs in the Yukon but it is not often that we get a report like this so soon after it occurs. The witnesses were interviewed about 15 hours after their experience. They were still in a state of shock, coherent, and sincere. For those who doubt accounts like this, I only wish they could hear the witnesses first hand. Their emotional state and what they had to say has left a deep impression on me. Many thanks to FOX4 for notifying us of this sighting, conducting the initial interview and for obtaining the witness drawing. Since this article has been published one of the witnesses has informed us that she does not mind having her identity disclosed. "I know what I saw" Leah Isaac states, "and I was a skeptic before!"
The Account:
Leah Isaac, a friend of hers, and a young boy (who was asleep) were travelling northbound along the Klondike Highway from Whitehorse to the Village of Pelly Crossing, Yukon. The sky was clear with a glow of predawn blue. They were nearing the end of Little Fox Lake and came around a sharp right-hand bend near the base of a mountain. Upon coming out from the bend they could not believe their eyes! To the right and about 300 ft (90 meters) away was a 30 to 40ft (9 to12 meters) diameter saucer, hovering about 200 ft (60 meters) off the ground! They observed it to be stationary for 4 to 5 seconds as they were travelling along the highway and then it shot across horizontally in front of their vehicle at an "incredible speed" and stopped instantly on the left side of the road. "Nothing can move that fast", "in the blink of an eye" the witnesses described. It remained motionless for only another split second and shot off even faster in a different direction (basically performing a 90-degree turn and shooting off behind them). One witness thought it went right into the side of a mountain while the other thought it followed the mountainous skyline. "Come on, floor it, floor it!" shouted the friend to Leah. They continued northbound fleeing from the location and eventually pulled over about 20 minutes later. They were both visibly shaking. "We were more scared than excited, I think if it wasn't so close it would not have been so frightening", "It's like we caught it by surprise when we came around the corner", "it was so advanced", "I'll never be the same" were some of the comments by the witnesses.

Drawing of the UFO by witness Leah Isaac, the driver.
The witnesses got a good look at the saucer. It was a classic disc shape with a dome on top. The dome had two curved windows or lights from which a beautiful ocean blue or aqua colored light was shining. The surface of the craft was difficult to describe. Some of the words the witnesses used were "mirror, silver, translucent, shiny, glassy, reflecting the color of the sky". It was as though the UFO was trying to "camouflage against the background sky color". "Had it been pitch black out I don't think we would have seen the body of the craft, just the windows or lights" Leah remarked.

Drawing by the passenger of the vehicle
a) a sketch showing the basic shape of the UFO
b) the witness drew this second sketch to better describe the dividers between the windows or panel lights
As the UFO streaked in front of their vehicle, the car headlights dimmed and their tape deck stopped playing. They both wanted to check the time of their sighting. However, Leah's battery-operated analog watch stopped (at 5:00am) and the man's digital watch went blank, and then got stuck in "chrono mode" and wouldn't reset. A few miles down the road Leah tapped the face of her watch and it started working again. The man fiddled around pushing buttons on his digital watch and it started working as well, the time indicated was 5:12 am. They checked the tape deck and by all indications, John Fogerty should have been playing away. The tape hadn't run out, the volume was on, and the lights on the cassette window indicated that the power was on. Other than the initial power drain, no additional problems were noted with the truck. The man figured that they managed to get the tape deck and watches functioning properly after they traveled a "couple of miles" past the UFO sighting location. The woman figured that about 5 minutes had elapsed when they managed to get their watches functioning and about 10 minutes until the tape deck started to work. Although the witnesses were travelling in a vehicle, no noise was heard emanating from the UFO.
Updated Information:
Leah Isaac was interviewed in Whitehorse and was asked to use reference objects (buildings around her) to help provide estimates of the closest approach and size of the UFO. These distances were measured and the following results were determined: At their closest approach the UFO was about 27 metres (90 feet) away and about 10 metres (34 feet) in diameter. The geometry gives a viewing angle of about 22 degrees of an arc.
Further investigation into this case is described in the IUR Journal (International UFO Reporter) Summer 2000 issue Vol. 25. No. 2. by Mark Rodeghier* and Martin Jasek.
*Mark Rodeghier is the scientific director of the Center for UFO Studies in Chicago. He has dedicated his UFO studies to cases where there had been interference with the vehicle's electronics, such as this one that occurred at Little Fox Lake. To date he has catalogued some 500 such cases. He has the following to add regarding this case:
"I am definitely interested in more information on this report, as much as possible, both because it is a recent case and because very few vehicle interference reports have been studied in depth before. This is because they have been so infrequent--only somewhat over 500 have occurred worldwide since 1947--so any one investigator may only see one or two reports in a lifetime of UFO investigations. I have personally investigated only one report, although I have spoken with the witnesses in about a dozen other cases.
I can tell you that this case fits a pattern I first discerned about 20 years ago. That is, in most vehicle interference reports, the UFO is disk-shaped, about 30 feet in size, and comes quite close to the witness. It often moves in front of the vehicle, as it did at Little Fox Lake. Most cases also occur in isolated locations. The color blue is quiet common. It's amazing to me to see this pattern repeating here in the year 2000."
Mark Rodeghier and Martin Jasek continue to work on this case. Work includes obtaining the magnetic signature of the vehicle to assess if it had been magnetized.
Additional Information:
To help visualize the lighting conditions an astronomical simulation program was used to determine that the sun was 11 degrees below the horizon during the sighting. It is difficult to put this in perspective in terms of the amount of time before sunrise as the sunrise rate varies significantly with latitude and season. For the location and date in question, it was about 1 hour and 35 minutes before sunrise. For different latitudes similar lighting conditions can be found at the following times before sunrise or after sunset:
For March 30:
Equator (0 deg lat.): 42 minutes
Los Angeles (34 deg lat.): 55 minutes
Vancouver (49 deg lat.): 1 hour 05 minutes
Little Fox Lake (61.5 deg lat.): 1 hour and 35 minutes
For June 30:
Equator (0 deg lat.): 45 minutes
Los Angeles (34 deg lat.): 1 hour 05 minutes
Vancouver (49 deg lat.): 1 hour 40 minutes
Little Fox Lake (61.5 deg lat.): does not get dark enough

For Leah Isaac, a strange encounter with the third kind on March 30 made a believer out of the former skeptic.
The episode, meanwhile, is attracting the interest of the American media.
"I can’t even travel at night anymore," the Pelly Crossing resident told the Star in Whitehorse this morning.
Shortly after 5 a.m. on the day in question, Isaac was travelling to Pelly from Whitehorse along the North Klondike Highway with a friend when they came around a corner at Little Fox Lake to a sight neither had seen before.
About 15 to 22 metres (50 to 75 feet) away was a disc-shaped aircraft hovering about 60 metres (200 ft.) off the ground.
"It was silver and transparent," she noted. "It was like a mirror. It was almost like you could see right through the craft.
"It’s so hard to explain because you never see that kind of material. It’s almost like you can see right through it."
Inside the craft appeared a blue, turquoise colour, but she did not see a pilot nor anyone in the craft which she noted was "so advanced.
"I was really scared, but I was really shocked when I’ve seen it," Isaac said. "We were both shaking."
Isaac’s analog watch stopped, while another friend’s digital watch went into chrono mode, the truck’s tape deck stopped and the lights on her vehicle dimmed.
"Everything went dead," she said.
Isaac reported the craft seemed to be somewhat confused at their presence. After about five seconds, it shot in front of their vehicle and stopped instantly on the left side of the road.
Isaac reported that she had never seen anything move so fast, and it made no noise.
"I think if it wanted to hurt us, it probably would’ve," she said.
As Isaac kept driving through the experience, her eyes were peeled on the site, while her friends told her to "floor it."
They took off after the craft disappeared and didn’t look back for fear that it would follow them. It was about five minutes before the watches began working again and 10 minutes before the tape player resumed working.
"I was driving really fast, as fast as I ever drove, and then when we stopped somewhere, we were just shaking."
When they got to Pelly, they began laughing about the event and their reactions to it.
"I didn’t even watch where I was driving," she said. "It’s just funny now that you think about it."
Although Isaac and her friend had initially agreed not to tell anyone, before they got into Pelly, they changed their minds.
When Isaac arrived at her mother’s house in Pelly, she immediately drew a picture of the craft, wrote about it and began telling her mother the story.
"She was really excited, too."
Isaac also contacted other friends and family that day to tell them about her experience. While some say she "has made up a good story," others believe her. There have been numerous sightings around Fox Lake over the years.
"It’s reality. I’m just telling people what I’d seen."
In the three weeks since the experience, she has spoken with the media, including a Los Angeles radio station, in hopes that others will come out with their own stories.
Although she’s still scared to drive alone at night, it has tweaked her curiosity and changed the way she views things.
"I think people should be aware of what’s going on in the Yukon," she said. "There’s more sightings now than ever."
Before the experience, she was skeptical of other life in the universe, but now she is curious to know what’s out there and has considered going back to the site early in the morning to see if she can find out more. She’s curious as to why the ship was lingering near telephone poles.
"Our universe is so big, there must be something out there," she said.know what’s out there and has considered going back to the site early in the morning to see if she can find out more. She’s curious as to why the ship was lingering near telephone poles.

Witness' sketch of UFO at Vaucluse, Australia, July 19, 1965.
UFO on Australian Beach
Vaucluse Beach, a suburb of Sydney, would be the location of a close encounter of the eerie kind. On July 19, 1965, Dennis Crowe, a one-time technical artist for English aircraft companies, would have the most unusual event of his life occur. A little after 5:00 P.M. Crowe was strolling along the beach, located not far from his home. The sea had been rough that day, with high winds and frequent rain showers, and Crowe was enjoying a calm between the storms. In the distance, he began to see a glow, and as he moved closer, he could make out the shape of a disc-shaped object, sitting on legs on the sandy beach.
Crowe guessed the object's diameter at 20 feet, and he could now see a glowing blue-green hue rim around it, with the craft's two parts a dullish gray. The top appeared to be a transparent dome. The disc shaped craft was sitting silently. The only sound he heard at the time was barking from some dogs. They were barking directly at the object. Crowe had made his first observations at several hundred feet, and as he came to within about 60 feet, the object lifted itself from the ground. Crowe could now hear a sound..a sound like air being forced out of f a balloon.
The disc shaped UFO quickly climbed into the air, and within about 10 seconds, it had disappeared. The dogs were now silent. Crowe had been the only human to see the strange craft. Crowe made a report of what he saw, and a geologist came to make an inspection of the landing site. He stated that some type of object had definitely rested where Crowe had seen the UFO. The plant life in the area of the landing was all dying.
The sighting gained enough publicity to bring in The Royal Australian Air Force. They offered a possible explanation for the event. They said that it could have been a "tornado." Crowe categorically rejected this theory. For lack of more information, no other research was forthcoming on this strange sighting. Crowe stood by his account of what he saw that day, and no other evidence is available to deny his claims. The UFO that landed on Vaucluse Beach that day remains an "unknown."

Maurice Masse
A Farmer is Detained by Aliens in France
On July 1, 1965, at about 5:45 in the morning, in the region of Valensole, Basses Alpes, France, farmer Maurice Masse was inspecting his field of lavender when he heard a whistling sound, then noticed an egg-shaped object with six thin legs and a central pedestal standing nearby. Masse later said the object was about the size of a small car, and he could see two seats inside an open doorway. At the same time, he also saw two "small boys," humanoid-looking beings less than four feet tall, dressed in grayish-green one-piece coveralls. Masse reported that they appeared to be gathering handfuls of his lavender. He said they had large, hairless heads, smooth white skin, large slanted eyes, pointed chins and small mouths with no lips. Masse heard them makesoft gurgling sounds, as if communicating. When he approached, one of them pointed a small "tube" at Masse, which immediately immobilized him where he stood. He remained conscious, watching as they finished their task and then entered the egg-shaped object, which rose off the ground, moved quickly away, then suddenly disappeared a few moments later. Masse was left standing paralyzed in his field, but regained his mobility about fifteen minutes later.

Masse reported his encounter in detail to local authorities, including the mayor of Valensole, his parish priest and the gendarmerie. The site was thoroughly inspected, and symmetrical marks were found in the ground exactly where Masse said the legs of the object had been. It was later discovered that lavender would not grow on that spot for a period of ten years. Four days after the encounter, Masse began to experience bouts of profound drowsiness which caused him to require more than twelve hours of sleep every day for the next several months. Despite his reported immobilization by the humanoid beings, and his later health difficulties, Masse said he had a positive feeling about his encounter. Masse was well-known and highly respected in his community, and all the local authorities who examined his claims reached the conclusion that he was telling the truth.

The following account is drawn from a series of articles which originally appeared in the English Flying Saucer review (1965a b,c.)
Valensole is a small village in the south-east of France, near to Nice. A significant event occurred there on July 1, 1965. In the month of June, Maurice Masse, a World War Two resistance fighter, and a trustworthy farmer according to local police; together with his father had noticed someone had been picking their lavender plants. At 5.45 a.m. Masse was standing by a tractor smoking a cigarette. The tractor was parked by a mound of pebbles and rakings, close to a small vineyard, in the lavender field.
A whistling sound came to his attention which he thought was a helicopter. However, upon looking around the mound he saw an unusual object. It was shaped like a rugby football and the size of a car. It stood on a number of legs, stated to have been 6 in number by Bowen (1974:246) and 4 by Vallee (1990:108). There was a central pivot stuck into the ground beneath it. Masse noted what he first took to be two children, about aged eight years, close by the object apparently inspecting a lavender plant.
Masse thought at first, from an initial distance of 60m, that these were the people who had been taking his plants. He decided to approach quietly through the vineyard. However, when he got closer he realised the figures were not children but unusual beings. He left the vineyard and walked though the low height lavender field.
At about 5m distance from the object, one of the beings turned and pointed a pencil-like object towards him and Masse was frozen, unable to move. Vallee (1988:27) reports that masse could still breath and feel his heart beat present.
The beings were described as follows. They were some 120cm tall and wore close fitting, grey-green clothes, but no head covering. Their heads were pumpkin-like, with high fleshy cheeks. The eyes were large and Vallee (1988:26) adds that Masse told him that the eyes con- veyed human expressions. These eyes slanted away around the sides of the face. The mouth was merely a slit or hole, without noticeable lips. Their chins were very pointed. Vallee (1988:26) adds their hands were small and nor- mal. Grumbling sounds came from their middles.
Masse has consistently refused to disclose what - if anything - happened between him and the beings.
After a while the beings re-entered their object. Vallee (1988:27) notes the door closed “like the front part of a wooden file cabinet. “ The beings were apparently visible looking at him from inside the object, while the legs whirled and retracted. The central pivot made a thumping noise. Then the object lifted offand floated silently away.
At 20m distance from the landing spot the object simply vanished fromview. Masse, according to Vallee ( 1988 :27), says: “One moment the thing was there and the next moment it was not there anymore.”
It took some 20 minutes forthe paralysis to wear off. After that Masse went back to Valensole. The proprietor of the cafe des Sports questioned him after being alarmed by Masse’s appearance. Masse told him part of what had happened, and the police were informed.
The Digne Gendarmerie, lead by a Captain Valet, were called in to investigate.
The traces:
At the time traces were found at the spot where the object had rested. These consisted of a flat imprint just over 1m in diameter. In the centre, where the central support had been, was a cylindrical hole some 30cm deep and some 15cm diameter. From the hole radiated four flat grooves, making an x shape. Each of the grooves was 2m long and 25cm deep. The soil here was of a near-liquid consistency despite the fact that it had not rained for some time.
That evening Masse and his 18 year old daughter went back to the site . The soil surrounding the central trace was as hard as cement compared to the surrounding soil which crumbled when held.
After a period of time, a 3 m diameter circular area in the middle of rows of lavender plants died, with only a few weeds continuing to grow. Around the perimeter a num- ber of lavender Plants were stunted and withered looking.
The calcium content of the soil, taken from the site, was much higher then in soil taken from other areas of the field (Phenomenes Spatiaux 1966:26)
Masse reploughed the landing site and replanted, but these plants also died.
After effects:
Vallee (1988:27) reports that for several weeks after the event, Masse was overcome with drowsiness and found it difficult to stay awake for more then four hours at a time.
Aime Michel visited Masse on Aug 8,1965, and at the end of the interview showed Masse a drawing of the Socorro object which Masse took to be his object.
Michel reported that Masse appeared anxious, nervous and distressed at interview. Masse said of the beings: “They were good” and n they did not wish to do us any harm.”

Full Report
One of the most bizarre accounts of UFO folklore involves an incident that allegedly occurred in Voronezh, Russia. This case was reported in the United States by the St. Louis Dispatch. The story was originally published on October 11, 1989, in America, but its origin was the Russian newspaper TASS.

The report recounts the adventures of several young children who claimed to have seen a three-eyed alien with a robot escort. The alien was said to be about nine foot tall. The craft, according to eye witness testimony, landed on the outskirts of the city. Shortly thereafter, the tall alien appeared, and upon seeing the young lad, shot a type of weapon at him, causing him to vanish before the eyes of the other people around him.

Artist's rendition of the Voronezh landing by Elena Penkova.
There are several important elements one must keep in mind regarding this extremely strange case of a close encounter. The original details of the case were brought forward by Genrikh Silanov, head of the Voronezh Geophysical Laboratory, who gave details to the TASS agency. Silanov stated that the media took an enormous amount of creative freedom with his report.
"Don't believe all you hear from Tass," he stated." We never gave them part of what they published."
I take this statement to mean that only a part of the news agency's report was based on the facts obtained from Silanov.
The agency had informed the entire world that Russian scientists had confirmed that an alien spaceship carrying giants with tiny heads had landed in Voronezh, a city of over 800,000 people located about 300 miles southeast of Moscow. They stated that as many as three of these giant creatures had emerged from the alien ship. The ship was described as a large, shining ball. These strange creatures were said to have walked in a nearby park, accompanied by a menacing robot. Ironically, TASS was the only media member to print the story in Russia. The newspaper Pravda declined to print, or comment on the strange tale.
In defense of the TASS account, Soviet reporter Skaya Kultura said that the agency was following the ''the golden rule of journalism." "The reader must know everything.''
The TASS account stated that the UFO landed in Voronezh on September 27, 1989, at 6:30 P.M. Young boys playing soccer witnessed the event, stating that a pinkish glow preceded the descent of the unusual flying craft. The pink glow became a deep red as it touched down. Most witnesses described the object as a flattened, disc shape. A crowd quickly gathered, and peered through a hatch that opened. They saw a ''three-eyed alien'' about 10 feet tall, clad in silvery overalls and bronze-colored boots and wearing a disk on his chest. "

Sketch of the object by one of the children who witnessed the object.
The TASS account also stated: "A boy screamed with fear, but when the alien gazed at him, with eyes shining, he fell silent, unable to move. Onlookers screamed, and the UFO and the creatures disappeared."
According to the report, about five minutes later, they reappeared. The alien had an object similar to a pistol - a tube about 20 inches long, which it pointed at an unidentified 16-year-old boy, making him disappear. The alien went inside the sphere, which then took off. At the same time, the boy reappeared.
"Children and eyewitnesses of the abnormal phenomenon have been questioned by police workers and journalists," wrote E. Efremov, the Voronezh correspondent for Soviet Skaya Kultura."
"There are no discrepancies in the description of the sphere itself or the actions of the aliens. Moreover, all the children who became witnesses to this event are still afraid, even now."
Several drawings were made by some of the children who supposedly witnessed the events of Voronezh. A couple of these are included here. One of the drawings showed the Cyrillic alphabet character "zhe" on the side of the UFO.

TASS listed three witnesses' names, all of whom were youngsters. They also stated that a group of international researchers would be investigating the claims of the witnesses.
Voronezh residents interviewed later claimed they had observed this UFO not just during the above incident but also many times on September 21, 23, 29 and October 2, between 6 and 9 PM. Some of these incidents involved a different entity: small, with grayish-green face and blue overcoat resembling a loose raincoat.
This phenomenal account is still in need of more eye witness testimony and research. The Voronezh landing remains an unsolved mystery.
