Scientists Get Closer to Understanding Why (And When) We Dream

Like everyone else, I’ve had all sorts of dreams. Most are about ordinary, everyday things – sometimes I’m back at school, or hanging out with people I’ve never met, or getting hundred-thousand-dollar book deals. Other times, I’ll be hiding behind a tree watching people get vaporized by space aliens. I guess it depends on my mood. The funny thing about dreams, though, is that while everyone has them all the time, we still don’t understand them very well. They’re an enigma, and that doesn’t even include the wonder that is lucid dreaming. Luckily, a team of scientists led by Francesca Siclari at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have just published some interesting research that might reveal why dreams happen, and when. Life Could Be A Dream They’ve confirmed, at least, that dreaming does seem to happen while we sleep, and not just during REM (or Rapid Eye Movement). Dreams can occur during […] Read More

Easily Create Lucid Dreams By Doing These Things

Via The Mind Unleashed Lucid dreaming is beyond bizarre to most of us. You are asleep and dreaming yet you know you are dreaming, and many lucid dreamers can affect actions and outcomes in dreams just like they do during waking moments. Only in dreams, you can do much more fantastical things – bend steel, fly, stop bullets, and finally talk to that girl at the coffee shop that always makes you so nervous.  We already know that lucid dreamers have some of the highest brain wave frequencies on the planet, but what if you could induce a lucid dreaming state – known for helping to drastically change your waking life – simply by applying the right electrical current at the right frequency to the brain? What if you could also train your brain to have more lucid dreams? Scientists are starting to realize that the rabbit hole between […] Read More

10 Important Dream Symbols You Should Absolutely Never Ignore

For years we have been fascinated by dreams and dream symbols.  Most of the time, we don’t remember our dreams at all. Often enough, we wake up in the morning having absolutely no recollection of what we dreamed about through the night. Just because we don’t remember them, that does not mean that they didn’t happen. In fact, there are many theories on why we dream and what it does to us. Many believe that it is our way of understanding the world and making sense of the things that happen to us on a day to day basis. Still, it can be kind of frightening when you keep having the same recurring dream. All too often, people struggle when it comes to their dreams. They find that there is one ongoing scenario that plagues them time and time again. Does that sound familiar to you? In order to analyze […] Read More

2014: Your Ancestors Didn’t Sleep Like You – Are We Doing It Wrong?

Evidence continues to emerge, both scientific and historical, suggesting that the way in which the majority of us currently sleep may not actually be good for us. In 2001, historian Roger Ekirch of Virginia Tech published a paper that included over 15 years of research. It revealed an overwhelming amount of historical evidence that humans used to in fact sleep in two different chunks. (1) In 2005, he published a book titled “At Day’s Close: Night in Times Past,” that included more than 500 references to a disjointed sleeping pattern. It included diaries, medical books, literature and more taken from various sources which include Homer’s Odyssey all the way to modern tribes in Nigeria and more. “It’s not just the number of references – it is the way they refer to it, as if it was common knowledge.” – Ekrich (source) What Was Found In The Research Ekirch’s research found that […] Read More

1989: Quartz Crystals & Sex Magick Dream Techniques

by Bill Siebert I am a sex magician. I have been consciously working dream phantasy actualization through VIII° (masturbatory) Magick1 over the past three decades. I have found crystals to be an excellent adjunct to all forms of sex magick. If you are not already using the energy of your sexuality as a magickal tool, dream reification is a pleasant and easy way to begin. But, proceed with an understanding/acceptance that dreams invoke reality. So do phantasies. The explosiveness of orgasm thrusts phantasy into the collective unconscious to speed its reification. In this sort of working, crystals act like programmable beacons which embody the Will of the magician while s/he is busy spacing out on the ecstasy circuit. Be careful2 of the energies you invoke, for they will reify. Set aside at least 72 consecutive hours for this mini-Magickal retirement. Ideally, you should be well-rested, free from stress, and […] Read More

DREAMWORK

PREPARATION: Quartz Crystals, note pads, pens, calm music. We recommend that you begin and end each lesson with a short meditation of ten minutes duration, as your body and mind need to be calm and relaxed to achieve the best spiritual/psychic results. DREAM PROGRAMMING Everybody dreams nightly, but not everyone remembers their dreams, on awakening. Some people dream in colour, others in black and white. We are all individuals, even in our dream state. Yet this is a great resource, God – given to us, which is often under-utilized and which can be used successfully for our Higher Spiritual growth. Even so called “nightmares” can help us examine our inner fears and blocks. Master White Eagle has told us in channellings recently, that, ” The Great Spirit often tries to send information, prophecy, to you through your dreams .. and often this is sent in the way of signs and […] Read More

Wake Up from the Awake Dream

by Paul Levy When you begin to wake up in the dream you realize that the seemingly external dreamscape, be it your night dream or waking dream, is not separate from you. More than that, you realize that the seemingly external dreamscape that you find yourself in is somehow mysteriously connected to your mind. Just like the quantum physicists tell us, there is no objective universe, and the very act of observing the universe changes the universe. When you realize this, you understand that how you view this seemingly external dream has an immediate effect on how the dream appears. The two processes are simultaneous, mutually arising processes that happen in no time. Once you realize that how you view the universe immediately impacts on how it manifests, why not view it in a way that will wake you up? Why not view your life as if you are […] Read More

DREAMING WHILE AWAKE PRACTICES

This simple dreaming while awake practice pulls the unconscious mind into the realm of the conscious mind. Meditate with a partner at dusk or in a low light situation with your eyes open. Look into each other’s eyes for a long period of time while blanking your mind. Let your eyes be slightly soft focused and see. Allow any change in your vision to occur naturally. Be aware of the entire peripheral area and notice the highlights and shadows intensify. The face may disappear all together, or may change to other faces. Whatever you see, there is nothing to fear. A variation of this practice is to stare in a mirror in a low light situation. Another practice is to meditate facing someone, with your eyes closed. Allow yourself to be pulled to one of their chakras. Now allow an image to appear that has meaning to the person. […] Read More

TESTING THE LIMITS OF DREAM CONTROL: THE LIGHT AND MIRROR EXPERIMENT

[From NIGHTLIGHT 5(2), Summer 1993, Copyright, The Lucidity Institute.] TESTING THE LIMITS OF DREAM CONTROL: THE LIGHT AND MIRROR EXPERIMENT by Lynne Levitan and Stephen LaBerge Lucid dreaming offers the promise of enhanced control over dreams. Yet the question remains quite unanswered of how much dream control is possible. The ability to have lucid dreams also makes possible a way to study this issue. After having attained lucidity in a dream, dreamers can choose to carry out predetermined experiments testing their ability to achieve certain goals. In the “Free Fall” issue of NightLight (Vol. 4, No. 4) we asked lucid dreamers to attempt certain tasks in lucid dreams and to report on the outcome. An introduction to the many viewpoints on dream control will put the findings from this study in context. WAYS OF CONTROLLING The definition of “control” used here is “the ability to determine or influence the […] Read More

OTHER WORLDS: “Out of Body experiences” and Lucid Dreams

by Lynne Levitan and Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D. “Out of body” experiences (OBEs) are personal experiences during which people feel as if they are perceiving the physical world from a location outside of their physical bodies. At least 5 and perhaps as many as 35 of every 100 people have had an OBE at least once in their lives (Blackmore, 1982). OBEs are highly arousing; they can be either deeply disturbing or profoundly moving. Understanding the nature of this widespread and potent experience would no doubt help us better understand the experience of being alive and human. The simplest explanation is that OBEs are exactly what they seem: the human consciousness separating from the human body and traveling in a discorporate form in the physical world. Another idea is that they are hallucinations, but this requires an explanation of why so many people have the same delusion. Some of our […] Read More
