30 Year NSA Employee Turned Whistleblower: ‘The Ultimate Goal of the NSA is Total Population Control’

William Binney is a former high ranking intelligence official with the National Security Agency (NSA). He is one of the highest placed intelligence officials to ever blow the whistle on insider NSA ‘knowings.’ He made headlines when he resigned in 2001 after 9/11, having worked more than thirty years for the agency. He was a leading code-breaker against the Soviet Union during the Cold war, and was repelled by the United States’ massive surveillance programs. He’s had quite the go, starting in 2002 when he let the public know of a system ( ‘trailblazer’) intended to analyze data carried on communication networks (like the internet). He exposed the agencies eavesdropping program and has faced harassment from the FBI, NSA and more. He has been in and out of the court room ever since he decided to resign and blow the whistle. These mass surveillance leaks  are nothing new, as […] Read More

2017: When the NSA Feared Psychics Could Make Cities Lost in Time and Space

A version of this story originally appeared on Muckrock.com. A classified government document opens with “an odd sequence of events relating to parapsychology has occurred within the last month” and concluded with an alarming question about psychics nuking cities so that they became lost in time and space. If this sounds like a plot out of science fiction, it is – but it’s also an NSA memo from 1977. The first “event” raised by the NSA note is a CIA report which mentioned KGB research into parapsychology. According to this, the KGB used hobbyists and non-governmental researchers to talk to western scientists. This allowed the KGB to collect useful information without putting themselves into a position to accidentally leak confidential information to westerners. According to the NSA note, this tactic yielded “high grade western scientific data.” The next event described by the NSA note was what appeared to be a Russian provocation, though […] Read More

NSA hacked N. Korea since 2010, ‘knew’ of Sony link – secret document

New information appeared that the NSA was hacking into North Korea back in 2010. As it turns out, the White House could not have accused Pyongyang of the Sony hacks, had it not been for the spy tools already embedded in the North’s networks. The whole affair was a chain of events that started five years ago, when the United States realized the importance of keeping checks on the North Korean nuclear program, as well as monitoring for the possibility of attacks on its own facilities in South Korea and the region. This is the story according to former US government and foreign officials, as well as a number of computer experts who spoke to The New York Times. The information was also disclosed in a freshly declassified NSA document. It was a very intricate hack, as the American spies had to break into Chinese networks through which North […] Read More

2014: High-Level NSA Whistleblower Says Blackmail Is a Huge – Unreported – Part of Mass Surveillance

It is well-documented that governments use information to blackmail and control people. The Express reported last month: British security services infiltrated and funded the notorious Paedophile Information Exchange in a covert operation to identify and possibly blackmail establishment figures, a Home Office whistleblower alleges. *** Whistleblower Mr X, whose identity we have agreed to protect, became a very senior figure in local government before retiring a few years ago. *** He has given a formal statement to that effect to detectives from Operation Fernbridge … *** “And he said [the pedophile group] was being funded at the request of Special Branch which found it politically useful to identify people who were paedophiles….” Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885 made gross indecency a crime in the United Kingdom, which included male gay sex.  The Amendment was so frequently used to blackmail gay Brits that it was dubbed […] Read More

2005: NSA and the Clipper Chip

by Chuck Dupree I wrote what follows in 1995 as a letter to my Congressional representatives. The final product was significantly longer than I intended, as I got caught up in recounting the abuses of the Nixon era. A discussion of the Clipper chip is not likely to interest most readers these days. (Briefly, it was a government-approved encryption chip with a built-in back door, called the Law Enforcement Exploitation Field.) Nevertheless, I include this document here for two reasons. Mainly, because the first two-thirds recounts some history that seems more relevant than ever given the attacks on privacy and liberty we’;ve suffered since 9/11. Secondarily, because it’;s appeared around the web in bastardized form (frequently missing the third word of the first sentence, for instance). It’;s often been marked as copyrighted by Quadralay Corporation, but in fact Quadralay had nothing to do with it and would, I expect, […] Read More

2013: NSA: Dianne Feinstein breaks ranks to oppose US spying on allies

Senate intelligence committee chair Dianne Feinstein, who has been a loyal defender of the NSA, demands a ‘total’ surveillance review The chair of the Senate intelligence committee, who has been a loyal defender of the National Security Agency, dramatically broke ranks on Monday, saying she was “totally opposed” to the US spying on allies and demanding a total review of all surveillance programs. California Democratic senator Dianne Feinstein strongly criticised the NSA’s monitoring of the calls of friendly world leaders such as German chancellor Angela Merkel. Feinstein, who has steadfastly defended the NSA’s mass surveillance programs, added that both Barack Obama and members of her committee, which is supposed to received classified briefings, had been kept in the dark about operations to target foreign leaders. “It is abundantly clear that a total review of all intelligence programs is necessary so that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee are fully […] Read More
