Satanic displays will be going up at Statehouses in Michigan and Florida this Christmas season. The Florida Department of Management Services approved the display in Tallahassee from the Satanic Temple after rejecting it last year as “grossly offensive.” The satanic display will be put up in the first-floor rotunda of the Capitol for the holiday period beginning on December 22.
In Michigan, the Detroit chapter of the same satanic group sought and won approval to put up its exhibit as a counter to the Christian Nativity. Officials approved the display after the Capitol staff consulted the state attorney general’s office.
It’s a First Amendment right,” said Michigan Capitol Facility Director Dan Brocklehurst.
A Christian Nativity will be erected on the Capitol grounds beginning on Friday morning and the Satanic Temple’s display will go up on Sunday.
Back in Florida, Festivus, a non-commercial festival “for the rest of us,” will be back this year as well. The group erects a 6-foot stack of empty beer cans. Festivus is a “holiday” created for the TV sitcom “Seinfeld” as a non-commercial festival in the Christmas and year-end holiday season.
Florida has also approved a “Happy Winter Solstice” banner from the Madison, Wis.-based Freedom From Religion Foundation and an entry from the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Florida’s approved satanic display will banner the phrase “Happy holidays from the Satanic Temple” atop a diorama of an angel falling into hell.
Michigan’s display features a snake and the words “The Greatest Gift is Knowledge.”
Meanwhile, current U.S. and world news headlines are populated with reports of racial discontent, torture, rape, murder, war, famine and all-around human suffering in increasing volume and savagery – so it should come as little surprise that the United States is beginning to allow monuments dedicated to Lucifer to be erected.
I decided against showing images of the satanic displays but if you’re interested in seeing them just follow the links in the opening paragraph to view them.
To all those who embrace peace, love, and compassion – and according to Jesus Christ’s instructions, even those who don’t – Merry Christmas.
