VIA| The Swiss have put on one of the most bizarre opening ceremonies in history to mark the completion of the world’s longest tunnel. Famed for their trains, organizers roped in more than 600 dancers, acrobats, and dramatic actors and even composed the new route’s very own theme tune as they pulled out all the stops for Wednesday’s inauguration at the tunnel’s northern portal in Erstfeld. The tunnel has come in under its £8.5billion. Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, President Francois Hollande of France and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi all came to southern Switzerland for an upbeat, glitzy celebration featuring musical bands and dancers. Swiss engineer Carl Eduard Gruner first imagined it in 1947: a massive tunnel, unprecedented in length, buried a mile and a half under Switzerland’s symbolic Gotthard mountain range. Nearly seven decades later, after redesigns, political disagreements and the long, slow work of drilling beneath […]
Dinesh D’Souza, the director of the second most successful political documentary of all time, “2016: Obama’s America,” spoke at Amherst College regarding American exceptionalism.
Insanity and drooling for the last bites of capitalism’s moldy pie! by Paul Haeder “You’re retired, aren’t you?” the 29 year old says to me today, while I am with a friend, 62, who used to be my board president over at United Cerebral Palsy, just one of several jobs I’ve been sacked from by the Controllers – this time, unfortunately, by two insecure, anti-male-in-the-workplace self-described Jewish women who could not square that I was smarter than they were-are and that I had a passion for representing my people, clients living with severe disabilities, developmental and intellectual and psychological. I’ve written about that work here and here! The 29-year-old was flabbergasted that I was out looking for work, that I have no 401 k and that people my age – 58 – with the shitload of degrees and a million dreams realized in life and work and travel have […]
“The incumbents, Democrats, and Republicans, look upon this unlimited money as a great benefit to themselves.” The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines an ‘oligarchy’ as: “A government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes.” Former President Jimmy Carter had some choice words for our form of government, post-Citizen’s United, on my radio program this week.. When I asked him his thoughts on the state of American politics since five right-wing justices on the US Supreme Court opened the doors to “unlimited money” in our political discourse via Citizens United, Carter was blunt and to the point. “It violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president. And the same thing applies to governors, and U.S. senators […]
By Ross Pittman “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” — George Santayana Past presidents of the United States and other high profile political leaders have repeatedly issued warnings over the last 214 years that the U.S. government is under the control of an “invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people.” According to six of our former presidents, one vice-president, and a myriad of other high profile political leaders, an invisible government that is “incredibly evil in intent” has been in control of the U.S. government “ever since the days of Andrew Jackson” (since at least 1836). They “virtually run the United States government for their own selfish purposes. They practically control both parties… It operates under cover of a self-created screen [and] seizes our executive officers, legislative bodies, schools, courts, newspapers and every agency created for the public […]
Submitted by Martin Armstrong via Armstrong Economics, Fascism has been a term applied to the manner of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator/bureaucracy that is unelected or a republic with pretend “lifetime” politicians, controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government. Such systems have always placed the “good” of the state before the worth of an individual. The right to property is subject to constant search and seizure and courts only rule in favor of the state. That was the closing day of Rome. It was also the Soviet Union and especially East Germany with respect to the organization. I went behind the Berlin Wall before it fell. You could not speak freely on the street but had to wait until you were alone. The Soviet Union was a Communist/Fascist State where you could […]
Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog, The concept of “net neutrality” is not an easy one to wrap your head around. Particularly if you aren’t an expert in how the internet works and if you don’t work for an ISP (internet service provider). In fact, I think that lobbyists and special interest groups make the concept intentionally difficult and convoluted so that the average person’s eyes glaze over and they move on to the next topic. I am by no means an expert in this area; however, in this post I will try to explain in as simple terms as possible what “net neutrality” means and what is at risk with the latest FCC proposal. I also highlight a wide variety of articles on the subject, so I hope this post can serve as a one-stop-shop on the issue. The concept of “net neutrality” describes how broadband […]
