1893: Elementals

I The Universal Æther was not, in the eyes of the ancients, simply a tenantless something, stretching throughout the expanse of heaven; it was for them a boundless ocean, peopled like our familiar earthly seas, with Gods, Planetary Spirits, monstrous and minor creatures, and having in its every molecule the germs of life from the potential up to the most developed. Like the finny tribes which swarm in our oceans and familiar bodies of water, each kind having its habitat in some spot to which it is curiously adapted, some friendly, and some inimical to man, some pleasant and some frightful to behold, some seeking the refuge of quiet nooks and land-locked harbours, and some traversing great areas of water; so the various races of the Planetary, Elemental, and other Spirits, were believed by them to inhabit the different portions of the great ethereal ocean, and to be exactly […] Read More

Kabalistic Views Of “Spirits”

I beg you to again allow me a little space for the further elucidation of a very important question – that of the “Elementals” “and the “Elementaries.” It is a misfortune that our European languages do not contain a nomenclature expressive of the various grades and conditions of spiritual beings. But surely I cannot be blamed for either the above linguistic deficiency, or because some people do not choose, or are unable, to understand my meaning! I cannot too often repeat that in this matter I claim no originality. My teachings are but the substance of what many Kabalists have said before me, which to-day I mean to prove, with your kind permission. I am accused (1) of “turning somersaults” and jumping from one idea to another. The defendant pleads – not guilty. (2) Of coining not only words but Philosophies out of the depths of my consciousness. Defendant […] Read More

1881: The Bright Spot Of Light

Madame, – In the last issue of your valuable journal, a member of the New York Theosophical Society seeks to be enlightened as to the cause of a bright spot of light which he has often seen. I also am equally curious to have an explanation. I attribute it to the highest concentration of the soul. As soon as I place myself in that prescribed attitude, suddenly a bright spot appears before me which fills my heart with delight, this being regarded as a special sign by the Indian devotee that he is in the right path, leading to ultimate success in the Yoga practice, that he is blessed by the special grace of the Almighty. One evening, sitting on the ground cross-legged, in that state of concentration when the soul soars into high regions, I was blessed with a shower of flowers – a most brilliant sight, which […] Read More

1935: Beyond Human Personality

Being a detailed description of the Future life purporting to be communicated by the late F. W. H. Myers [Frederic William Henry Myers, 1843-1901] Containing an account of the gradual development of human personality into cosmic personality through GERALDINE CUMMINS “For it has been my lot to be concerned in a work more important and more successful than anything in my own capacity or character could have led me to expect. I have been one of the central group concerned in a great endeavor; the endeavor to pierce, by scientific methods, the world-old, never-penetrated veil. The movement which took overt shape in 1882, with the formation of the Society for Psychical Research, was aided indeed by help from other quarters, but in its essential character was the conception of a few minds, and was piloted through its early dangers by a small group of intimate friends. With this endeavor […] Read More

My trip across the parallel universe

by Misty This is a story about a wonderful thing that happened to me, and I would like to share it. With all my heart and soul I swear it is true. I went on holiday to Egypt in June 1980, to see an Egyptian whose visa had run out for UK. I got off the plane at about 7.30 pm and he was there waiting. After coming back from the airport, I socialized with my friend’s mother, had snacks etc. and went to bed alone at about 11pm. I turned off the light and lay down to rest. As I suffer insomnia quite often, I usually reflect a bit on the past day to digest what has occurred  and philosophize about the significance of anything I learnt, so was staring into space, thinking how wonderful it was to be in Egypt. I was wide awake and had only lay down a […] Read More
